I read somewhere that the remake was about Magnums daughter is grown up and comes to the island and takes over his practice.

Won't stop them (or NBC, ABC, etc.) from making remakes, they just don't care.

There are plenty of ideas for TV shows, movies, etc. Plenty. But mainstream networks and movie studios still have the stupid idea that rehashing an old proven idea will guarantee a built-in audience. When lawyers and accountants are the creative department of studios, the crap they produce is totally expected.
