I guess it's "a thing" in some areas.

Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency.

I gave up worrying about it. The dealers could track most vehicles nowadays through the infotainment systems as even basic systems have an emergency 911 capability (with geotag) built-in.

I shall respect you until you open your mouth, from that point on, you must earn it yourself.

I think a lot of modern cars could be tracked, but are not routinely tracked. A tracking device like in that video is used by used car dealers who make high risk high interest rate loans, so they can find the vehicles they need to repo it. I think some are even using devices that can disable the vehicle if a payment is missed.

Of course they can also be used to track cheating spouses. But that’s often done by smaller “tag” type devices. Or even phones. I get a fair number of people coming into my shop wanting to find the tracker on their car, insisting there has to be one even when we can’t find one. Their spouse is tracking their phone.

I don’t like it one bit, and if I still drove like I did in my sportier years, I would do what I could to disable the device.

I drive a ‘24 Subaru Forester Wilderness, and it is connected to my home internet and to my iPhone 16 when away. I’m sure Subaru and everyone else, including Google, USAA, and who knows who else, know everything about my driving habits, vehicle health status, destination, etc.

I use the MySubaru app for the services it provides like remote start/lock/unlock and vehicle health, so I just have to live with the fact I’m connected.

Your phone is often in your car. You’re cooked if you think your location is unknown.

I hate it but I've come to accept that I can do nothing about it. As guuugle has shown, even if you opt out, they still track you w/o your knowledge. I refer to the second verse of the serenity prayer.
