  • Sounds a lot like NY post bail reform. Even in NY, bail reform has become wildly unpopular, yet the ruling elite keep refusing to take some of their bail reform efforts back. Even with the best of cops, people are going to have to get more used to being responsible for more of their own safety. I know that Austin is incredibly liberal, but it still pains me to see crap like this in the great state of Texas.

    Since these rave/party/mansion ragers all start on social media, someone needs to sue FB, Instagram, SnapChat, see if they can get some civil judgement against them for allowing these posts to be made.

    FB has code in place that knows when you include COVID or some derivative of COVID and tags the post with a warning pop up and a link to their response, same on Trump, or any political post they have flagged specific words, they can do this for these activities.

    If the social media people can block Trump, or individuals for posts they don't like, they can darn sure see peoples posts, and should have security measures in place to find these posts and block them.

    Since they allow it to happen on their private social media platform, see if some civil action will stick and force the change..

    Police contract negotiations had been going on for months prior to this. A 4 yr agreement had been hammered out-agreed to by both sides, the vote came, this council voted it down. Cronk was in favor of it.
    This council wants an all powerful citizen oversight component to any contract (so they say), where they can basically have access to and share investigations with whomever.
    For the last 2 contract negotiation sessions, they’ve gone through the months long process with the police association, and promptly voted them down.
    This along with the cop hating Travis County DA Jose Garza, has combined to make Austin as bad as any liberal led city, imo. His claim to fame was indicting 19 officers who used force to repel the mobs trying to burn down the main police HQ building in 2020.

    Police only (can) do so much in the system- there's another layer.

    But wait, THERE"S MORE!!!!

    Judges!
    Can't do much if there's a whole mess of "Not Guilty" verdicts, or "Probation / Double secret Probation" sentences.

    Hold on, we'll toss in an ADDED BONUS!

    I couldn't help it and burst out laughing.

    Seems the guy that is rabid anti-cop even though he has never been hassled, now wants more cops and do something about the poor "homeless" and rampant crime.

    What largely goes unaddressed is the fact that so much of these police departments' collective experience is lost due to these issues and no matter how many new officers are recruited, they are trained, evaluated, and led by less knowledgeable and competent officers, supervisors, and managers. The standards for applicants and trainees are reduced because the applicant pool is smaller and those that are hired aren't just less competent to start, those that they rely upon are less competent too. Look no further than the case of Minneapolis PD Officer Derek Chauvin and the inexperienced officers that were with him during the George Floyd arrest and ensuing death. MPD had these same issues and as a result of city "leadership" (lack thereof) decisions, created their own self-fulfilling prophecy.

    The long term harm from these anti-law enforcement/justice system pogroms will be felt for decades and I believe those promoting them know this.
