There's a Firehouse Subs about 10 miles away. Never been there either.

I'll have to make it a point to give them a try.

Only Jimmy John's, Subway, Potbelly or Cousin's here, along with a couple local places.

I used to live on Hungry Hobo when I was still in the QC area.

There's a name I haven't heard in awhile. In my poor college days, I worked at Cousins Subs on Grandview in Waukesha.

Publix deli for me. I've had Jersey Mikes, Firehouse, and Jimmy John's, but I don't remeber them being any sort of special. Unfortunatley, my kids like Subway. They also like Pizza Hut, Dominos, and Olive Garden. I don't understand why.

Wife and I split a giant #13 Mikes Way last night and it was fantastic. Always enjoy Jersey Mike's.

Well, I had my first Firehouse Sub today. I got the Hook & Ladder hot, wife got the Italian cold. Both were good, but Primos is better. I haven't had a Jersey Mikes, but my wife has and she prefers it to the Firehouse product.

Red Bank NJ. I haven't thought about it for a long time.

November 1964, I took my first checkride there. Passed it, and my flying career was started.

I'm pretty sure that Red Bank airport no longer exists.

Sadly, you are correct. It one of the many small NJ airports that have been redeveloped. In this case, into an office park.

My personal local NJ favorite is Francesco's in Raritan. Every bit as good as Elsie's but a lot closer.
Will have to see how a Jersey Mike's in Jersey stacks up.

Love me some Jersey Mikes. I like the 7, 9, and 26. Have had Firehouse a couple times and it was okay, definitely prefer JM. We a place called The Sandwich Spot which is pretty good. Of the few places the wife and I have gone, JM is still our favorite. Just opened one up less than a mile away Big Grin

My favorites, in this area, are the made-to-order subs at the deli counter in one of the local Winn-Dixie grocery supermarkets.
Really? I guess it depends on location. The Winn-Dixie near me is okay but I get a much better sub from any Publix I ever go to.
Yeah, probably location dependent. In my area, there is one Winn-Dixie where the deli department makes really good subs. The other locations are meh.

Publix seems to be more consistent from location to location, but the one really good Winn-Dixie beats the Publix hands down, and at lower prices, too. If I remember correctly, it's $3.99 for a six inch at Winn-Dixie, $5.49 and up for a six inch at Publix.

FYI: My local Winn Dixie just got done renovating their store. At least in this store there are no more fresh made deli sandwiches. I don't know if that is going to happen in every store but I guess they traded them out by now having pulled pork and Brisket sandwiches.

Love Jersey Mikes!

The kids up the street from me do a great job and get a great tip.

So many sandwich threads, I'm in heaven.

Jersey Mike's like all eateries are hit and miss. Sometimes you get a good meal and other times it blows. Just like bagels. Here is Virginia, all bagels are not equal. At the same bagel location, sometimes the bagels are cooked correctly; boiled in water, that finalized in the oven. Other times, it seems that they were not boiled first or not boiled long enough, just baked in the oven resulting in Panera Bread style bagels; just bread.
Personally, I find all these sub shops over priced, lacking in quality cold cuts and day old rolls.
Bottom line, I make my own subs.......

For me theres Jersey Mikes and then theres everyone else. I go at least once a week and on Wed. you get free chips and drink with a reg. sub. I like the #11 which is not often listed on the menu. It's ham and salami. They have some subs like that not listed on their menu so the missing numbers can be found on their website. If you see one you like just order it and they will make it for you.

Coming from NJ the one thing SW Utah didn't offer were Subs!

We were at a wedding in Michigan and were looking for a place for lunch, we spot a Jersey Mikes! Walked up and were told it wasn't open yet and they were doing a pre-opening with employees. We told them "Hey, we're authentic NJ folks, how about us?". Nope, they wouldn't let us be test pilots.

Now, back to Utah. we have a Firehouse Sub about 25 miles away. Sometimes the wife is in that area and she'll pick me up a Sub, but it ain't NJ!

One of the better cold subs I’ve had. Price was in line with what I remember at Potbelly’s (really busy sandwich chain popular around Houston) and Firehouse.
UPDATE: Finally had a chance to try Jersey Mike’s for lunch. As expected, even better with fresher bread.

There's a Jersey Mike's near my workplace in Bethel, CT. We go there for lunch once in a while. I've probably been there a dozen times and I've never been disappointed.

Not as good as a non-chain local deli, but they make a pretty good sandwich.
Much better than Subway, Blimpie, Quiznos or D'Angelo in my opinion.

Based on this thread, I stopped into a Jersey Mikes. It was ok. I prefer firehouse subs.

And why the hell do they ask for a tip on a $9 sub??!! I don't get it. Does Jersey Mike's use this "tip" money as part of the salary? Pay minimum wage or less because they are expected to get tips instead of just paying them $10-$11 an hour? Annoy the customer by begging for a tip on every transaction to increase profits? Bad business idea, in my estimation.

some patrons appreciate a clean floor, tables and chairs, prompt courteous service, good quality food, reasonable prices .

other patrons do not , it's that simple
