I have had AT&T Internet and Directv satellite fo a little over 20 years. I finally decided to cut the satellite and go to Directv Stream as the cost of renting the DVRs was crazy and I didn’t watch all the channels. The benefit I has when AT&T and Directv merged was I then had unlimited Internet since I subscribed to both. When I changed to Directv Stream, I told them the only reason I was even keeping stream was so I still had Directv to keep my unlimited Internet. They said nothing would change. Now my bill has cut in half, but now I got a warning that I went over my Internet usage and would be charged if it happened again. I logged in and now saw I no longer have unlimited Internet. I am not too happy they did not tell me I would lose my unlimited Internet. It appears even though they are the same company, Directv and Directv Stream are totally different and not even in touch with each other. They made me give all new info and sai they did not have access to my Directv account even though they were Directv Stream! Just curious if anyone has been through this, and I need to decide how to deal with this and who to call since these are all one company but appear to not be connected to each other. They are one company for now, but I believe AT&T is trying to dump DirecTV. That may be part of it. "If Gun Control worked, Chicago would look like Mayberry, not Thunderdome" - Cam Edwards

I have AT&T tv, recently renamed DirectTV stream. I really like the service but don't like the bait and switch they do with the new service price but the cost then goes up after X amount of months.

Left-Handed, NOT Left-Winged! |
AT&T just sucks for almost everything. They pushed U-Verse here relentlessly and claimed it was superior to cable and higher tech. DSL twisted pair copper is inferior to 75ohm coax in bandwidth, service distance, and just about every other measure. I asked them specifically how they would wire my house for it to work - they said they could interface to the internal cable wiring that goes to each room. I asked specifically how they would tie in because if I don't like it I don't want to have a bunch of severed cables I have to re-terminate to restore cable service. They kept saying they would take care of it and I finally said you are going to commit to pay whatever it costs to put it back the way it was if I don't like it or no deal. Then the guy admitted he had no idea whatsoever how the installation would be done and could not guaranty anything.

So you're saying ATT is changing the ground rules and trying to screw you? I'm stunned I tell you. Going on two years ago we signed up with them despite my serious reservations. Was promised by the local representative that the combined bill would be $120. Well it was $120 exactly once. Then jumped to $155. Fought with them for 5 months getting credits and finally just lowered the level of the TV listings to get the bill down. It was either that or stroke out from having to deal with those corrupt MF's and fight for a credit every month. Commitments only go in their favor. Mine is up with them in February. I'll switch despite still not having a really good alternative at that location. What really pisses me off is I knew better but got sucked in by lack of viable alternatives. Never is a long time but they will never get another dime from me once my contact is up. I'll do without before I ever do business with them.

That is the problem for me. There is only one other internet provider available where I live and they are horrible. Even with AT&T I am limited on the speed I can get since they did not run fiber all the way in the area when they installed it. NRA Benefactor Life Member

I Deal In Lead |
I've never had AT&T Internet, but I have had DirecTV for at least 25 years and I'm wondering how much you got charged for DVRs. My bill says that the charge is $10.00/month for a DVR but that it's waived on my account, so I pay nothing. But do you feel that $10.00/month is crazy?

I had 4 receivers so that was $40 a month right there. We were mostly watching, and still do, Netflix so it just seemed like a waste of money. Then I had the protection plan and I forget what that was per month. NRA Benefactor Life Member

We did the streaming service for 3 months. We got a free AppleTV for doing it. We didn’t like the DVR system. I don’t remember much else. That ruined it for us. We have Comcast internet though. It always seemed like a completely different system. It was sold via AT&T store. Like they wanted to convert us to their products along with the Direct Streaming service.
