Yes, the horizontal bop has been a popular dance since before humans were humans, but reliable birth control made a huge difference in the likelihood of "average Joe" getting laid. I am pretty sure it also made a big difference in how women valued themselves, which led to changing beliefs about appropriate roles in life.
Wheels on luggage was another big factor.
