He's going to have ten $100 bills in his wallet.

If he insists on you naming a price then do so but with the following:

"I'm going to give you my price but I'm not interested in a counter because that implies we're negotiating and we're not."

He'll plop whatever you want in your hand.

I typically use Unicorn Auctions to see what some bottles are bringing.

Here are some from the most recent auction. You will see many with estimates that did not sell.

Double the price you paid in 2016. Your happy, he's happy.

Here in Ohio, the State has a lottery for Pappy. the entry period ended last week. For reference, here is what we will pay for the various Pappy's if we are lucky enough to be selected.

To me it's just Buffalo Trace in a fancier bottle but smoking cigarettes for 37 years has pretty much wrecked my sense of taste. So I'll just keep on buying my Trace when I can find it and having a bit of Johnnie Walker Black (or Double Black) when I want something a bit different.

I've stopped counting.

I’m glad I’m not a whisky/bourbon guy. That is some crazy stupid right there. I hope you get a ton of money selling it but holy crap that is ridiculous. I’ve sat next to guys explaining how bourbon/whisky/whiskey is made, named, oak casks, blah blah blah. I like to tell them I like it mixed with Dr Pepper just to see their heads explode. Lol

Honestly Buffalo trace is probably better. Pappy created the demand with fabulous marketing. Totally overrated. I don’t think even 20 year is anything special.

I would take $800 and run.

So I forwarded on a price of $1000 or $800 if he opened it in front of me and poured me a shot.

Now the following was related by the middle man. He said the gentleman almost broke down in tears due to buying a bottle a day earlier for much more. He did not give an exact price he paid though.

He declined saying his wife would not be happy if he bought another bottle right after spending as much as he did.

I'm thinking I might just list it for trade. I might be able to get a couple hundred rounds of 9mm for it. LOL

I greatly appreciate all the help with this. Now to decide what to actually due with it.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

In other words, the rocket surgeon friend of a friend didn't have the brains and/or patience to even send you a text for less money prior to paying an outrageous price. At least he got someone to give a price first... Roll Eyes

Truthly it doesn't bother me at all. I know him if I see him and that is it. He doesn't have my number and I don't have his. This was all through a mutual friend.

From what I understand he is the impulsive type of person. Not the first time I've heard he has jumped the gun.

My Son was recently passing through CVG,
Cincinnati International Airport. Next to his gate was a KY liquor Store, not a duty free shop.

He called and told me they had Van Winkle (Pappy 10 and 12 year for $900.00. Blantons Gold and Red for $450.00. I told him to pass.

I'd give it a week, maybe he has friends with similar tastes.

I’m guessing the guy just wants to show it to guests over Christmas.

Lot B is overrated while the 15 year is somehow underrated.

Bourbon secondary market is insane and I'd imagine I could pour Weller Green Label into a Lot B bottle and have people tell me it was the most amazing bourbon they'd ever tasted.

So now we know that someone willing to spend top dollar on the stuff thinks that $1000 is so far below the market price that he cried to hear it.

And, you still have the bottle to sell!

Not bad, not bad. Smile

My neighbor works for a liquor distributor. Restaurants that order a certain amount get the option to buy or are offered for free, bottles of Pappy Van Winkle. A lot of restaurants turn it down because they don't want to deal with it. Therefore, my neighbor has a nice collection of Pappy. I'll see if I can get some info on the value of your bottle.

A restaurant in Mount Pleasant SC has an extensive bourbon collection for patrons. They offered a shot of PVW 12 year old Reserve Lot B for $60. AT 17 shots per fifth, this would be $1020. So, retail value for your contents is truly a grand.

I may have missed this in an earlier reply, sorry if so...

But, if you're not really needing/wanting to sell it, why don't you just open it, drink it and enjoy it yourself?

I've never been willing to spend that kind of money on a bourbon. I do love the Buffalo Trace Distillery, but am quite content with the Weller, Col E. H. Taylor, Buffalo Trace itself, and Eagle Rare. It seems that most of their bourbons are difficult to find, at least around here in SC.
