Bought a 2003 truck at an auction, 2wd, LT 5.3 V8, only 107k miles.

Has a check engine light for P0343. Believe it's for the camshaft position sensor. Getting that done this coming week.

Now my big problem is no heat. Drove it home about 35 miles with no heat and about 30 outside. The mode is stuck in defrost so I think one of the actuators is bad. Both hoses going to and coming from the heater core are pretty warm after running for 20-30 minutes. The truck has dual climate with the display where you can set a temperature.

Any ideas? Thought the heater core my be clogged but both hoses feel pretty close in temp light the water is circulating.

Actuator failures are pretty common in those trucks. Fan control module in the heater box also is another common failure. Also when replacing that module be aware that GM also recommends that the pigtail lead (splice in) be replaced at the same time. Poor connection, melted plastic connector.

I had an '01 Silverado for 13.5 years and 5 of those were Alaska. I had regular heat controls (i.e. not dual climate zone). Overall, a very dependable truck, but I did have to get the heater core replaced and the actuator replaced (separate events).

Blower control module went out on my Chevy one winter. I had to get behind the glove box to get at it. Once replaced had heat again.

Fixed a blower motor control on my 2000 Z71. Akzo replaced the heater core while I was in there. Fan would only work on high, I think, while it was broken.
