For the least amount of work to fix this, keep your direct deposit to your savings account. Transfer the total amount you need to your checking account in one transaction. Do the remaining transfers from your checking. You had to have been told about the maximum number of withdrawals you can make. I remember it with my money market account. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

My bank too. It was explained when I opened accounts there in the 90's. But they also explained they are happy to make as many as you want for 5 bucks each after the first 5 per month free Whatever, sounds like a money grab rather than a regulation to me. That said, they have never actually charged me for it and I exceed the 5 free almost every month. Maybe your bank or the regulators are on an enforcement binge. Collecting dust.
