1967GoatHouse paint time. Paint brand and type questions for you paint experts.
Here's a decent video that talks about paint manufacturers. I think its AI generated, so take it for what its worth.
I've always liked Benjamin Moore, which is owner by Berkshire Hathaway.

Lowes Tool Rental here have commercial style sprayers for rent, $100 for 4 hours or so and they work really well.
Used one to paint the daughter’s fence, it was a life saver, can't imagine having to roll it by hand.
Surfaces like stucco should be rolled to push the paint into the holes and cracks. Alternatively, you can spray a thicker coat and have a helper back roll it behind you.
On our one story house, I just rolled it with the roller attached to a fiberglass pole.

scratchyWe just had our full exterior painted using Sherwin Williams Emerald. Roller and airless sprayer.

DaveLIt feels like piling on at this point but the pro painters I have used for years use Sherwin Williams for the exterior of our home and it's held up great. I am obsessive about some things and one of those is water intrusion so I have my stucco house painted every seven years (my house is stucco so paint is the water barrier). Every time I do they tell me I could get a couple of more years out of it.

lbsidOne coat of primer is sufficient and two coats of finish.
Ben Moore is my new favorite.S/W makes good paint but they are way overpriced
and just plain indifferent.

SW is very strong with painting contractors and loads the retail price so when contractors buy it at 40% off they they can make a profit on it.
The trick is to never buy SW paint at retail, they offer 30%+ off to consumers seemingly every few weeks. At 30-40% off it's quite competitive and less than Benny Moore.

Thanks for that info, good to know. Im almost done now. I was working of a ladder but my neighbor lent me his Personal Lift. I totally recommend this over a ladder. Coupled with a sprayer Id be drinking a beer in no time.

jimmy123xBenjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams, You shouldn't need 2 coats of primer IF you use good paint. You should only need 2 coats of color.

6guns^^^ And have the primer tinted to near the color of the paint...or solid stain.

Pro tip right there!
My painter always did this in the homes we built. Sometimes the client would come in and say WOW that looks great only to be told it’s only the primer!
Our Paint Store, Sherwin Williams, didn’t charge us for it either…

Yes, but don't tint it the exact same color, so you know you've covered the primer completely.

snwghstStay with Ben Moore products. they consistently rate high on Marschal Labs testing
SW's quality is trash and tests very low, regardless of product line. They talk a good game even with the deep discounts is overpriced
Marschal Labs is an indépendant testing company manufacturers pay to have industry standardized testing conducted
full disclosure, I'm in the industry for 25yrs, due to company's policy Im unable to disclose which

Lwt16I’ve used Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore for years. I’ve found BM paint to be slightly better than SW in durability as well as application ease.

konata88I used an upper end SW elastomer paint for my stucco exterior. Been pretty happy with it for the past 5+ years. 100f at times during the summer (dry heat).
What beneficial differences would I see with BM that I should consider for the next time (if the need arises)?

TigerDoreAnother vote for Sherwin-Williams Emerald Exterior here. I have been told by a painting contractor I trust, that is the only way to go for exterior paint.

sig2392I think Benjamin Moore quality has gone done since they have been bought.
I now use Sherman Williams unless it is a white color. If I need white I still use Benjamin Moore. Sherman Williams white are cooler and have have more blue in them.

It doesn't sound like trash to me?
Marschall Labs—an independent testing facility for coatings—evaluates exterior paints using accelerated weathering (UV, temperature, humidity) and real-world exposure at Florida facilities.
In these tests, Sherwin-Williams Emerald Exterior excels in gloss retention, UV protection, and mildew resistance, largely due to its cross-linking acrylic technology and hard, dense film build.
Independent industry evaluations and facade experts note that Emerald tests well across several core durability metrics: Weathering & Fading: In accelerated weathering equivalent to long-term exposure, Emerald maintains its gloss and color saturation significantly longer than entry-tier lines like SuperPaint.
Chalking & Cracking: Its cross-linking acrylic resin flexes and adheres tightly, scoring highly for resisting cracking and peeling under temperature fluctuations.
Mildew Resistance: It features premium stain-blocking technology and agents that inhibit the growth of mold and mildew on the surface of the film.
While highly durable, its harder finish makes it slightly less flexible than highly elastic options like Benjamin Moore Aura Exterior.

It scores a 67.5
Valspar signature (a SW company) scores a 94
