old rugged crossHouse paint time. Paint brand and type questions for you paint experts.
Have a small building near the beach that needs painting. Going to spray and then roll some. In the prep going to spray primer. Maybe two coats. Than a couple coats of paint. Going to be two tone with some very small amounts of white trim as a third color.
Thinking Valspar acrylic water base paint.
But wondering what you paint guys think or recommend. It is in a Salt air environment if that matters.
Thanks guys.

oddballInterior or exterior, I have always stuck by Benjamin Moore. Pricey stuff, but IMO worth the cost.

BB61I’ve always found you get what you pay for in paint. I use Sherwin Williams and I never buy their budget paint.

GraniteguyAs the previous 2 posts said - Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore. Stay away from the budget paints for any type of exterior work.

ridewvI'm not happy with the Valspar exterior water base, gloss, enamel on my metal doors, worst enamel I've ever used.
I would suggest S&W Emerald series. I used satin on two houses, one coat covered completely over the somewhat similar existing colors but I did a second coat on the south west sides.

My thoughts as well.
As a former beach house owner I would ask the local paint store what they sell the pros. There are definitely severe weather considerations to take into account with a beach house.
AI overview…
AI Overview For a beach house, the best exterior paints are 100% acrylic latex or elastomeric paints, specifically formulated to resist UV rays, high humidity, and salty air. Top choices for coastal climates include Sherwin-Williams Duration Exterior and Benjamin Moore Aura Exterior, both known for their salt-spray resistance and color retention.Choosing the right paint for a coastal environment like Isle of Palms requires specific formulas and coastal-inspired palettes:1. Best Formulations for Coastal Weather100% Acrylic: Highly flexible and breathable, allowing the paint to expand and contract with the wood without cracking.Elastomeric Paint: The best option for masonry, stucco, or cinder block, as it creates a thick, waterproof, and rubber-like membrane that bridges hairline cracks.Mildew Resistance: Always ensure your chosen paint has premium mildewcides added to combat coastal humidity.

HRKWe're not on the beach, 40+ miles inland, Sherman Williams is the exterior paint we use, it seems to hold up well to the harsh summer weather in Florida.
Beach Side, well, just plan on painting it constantly... that ocean salt air eats everything!

trapper189In 2010, we had a house in Florida 1,000' from the water painted with some sort of Sherwin-Williams industrial coating. No cracks, peeling, fading, or chalking when we sold it 15 years later, including 9 hour pounding from Ian.

konata88Another vote for higher end elastomeric Sherwin Williams paint - no complaints on exterior stucco despite temps that exceed 100F in summer.
Professionally applied. Not sure about self application.

wrightdI've never been let down with Benjamin Moore premium paint of any kind. I finished a custom wood shed last year with Ben Moore Exterior Primer and Satin Exterior Acrylic Latex. And the previous summer a custom cut and fitted replacement front porch rails and columns, with exterior brand name primer, and Ben Moore Exterior Acrylic Latex again, all hand painted with brush. You get what you pay for.
I've heard good stuff with premium Sherwood Williams as well, but I've never used it.
I hired painters to do some interior spaces inside my house last year, again Ben Moore.

cruiser68Sherwin Williams Emerald. I have a business account with them so I get a big discount. I do several various paint jobs a year in my spare time. Having said that, I would still pay the premium price if I had to. Stuff is vastly better than big box imo. Benjamin’s Moore is a close second for me.

MattWSherwin Williams is what we used on our exterior. The Sherwin Williams at Lowe’s is not the same quality that is at an actual Sherwin Williams. Spending the extra money is worth it for exterior paint.

Captain MorganI am painting the exterior of my house too using Sherwin Williams. I am going over the original white with a greyish blue color. My siding is the old asbestos type I have to use a brush and roller. Two coats for me. I wish I had a sprayer.
As I am sure you know, stir it well. I use a drill with a paddle on it for about 5 minutes.

400mWhen I bought my house 27 years ago I research the same question. The recommendations apparently have not changed. Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore were the overwhelming choice.
I chose Benjamin Moore and have stuck with them. I have never been disappointed.

Calif PhilOnly use Sherwin Williams, really like the local store service. Friendly folks who know their product, they keep records of what paint I used, where it was applied for 10 years.

Lowes Tool Rental here have commercial style sprayers for rent, $100 for 4 hours or so and they work really well.
Used one to paint the daughters fence, it was a life saver, can't imagine having to roll it by hand.
