lizardman_u"Thunderstorm Thursday" Photo taken with Pentax K-1
So Thursday 04 May 2017 we had a thunderstorm that actually came through the area, and didn't go around us to the north or south as is the usual occurrence.
I grabbed my tripod, Pentax K-1 with the Pentax 24mm 1:2 lens and a 10 stop Neutral Density Filter (can cut from one to 10 stops of light).
This is a 30 second exposure at f-22
"Thunderstorm Thursday"
Enjoy, and as always any constructive critique is appreciated.

DitchDoctor911Very nice! Thanks for also including the technical details of the shot-- I like knowing how the photo was taken, helps my own photos

Bendable, all of the Pentax bodies document the EXIF data as do most DSLR camera bodies.
Thank you all for the kind comments.
My next experiment will be shooting lightning in the daytime as the method I know for shooting it at night doesn't work in the day (darnit).

Scooter123I don't know what is beyond the end of that street but if it's open country I think you may have gotten a bit better image shooting about even with that light pole. Because I find those cars to be a distraction.
If you did take one from a more forward position please post it here. Without any doubt at all you got some real drama in those clouds. Years ago I used to play around with ND filters for moving water effects but never even considered using them with clouds. Kudos to you for having the forethought to take the approach you did.
Now I'll have to do a lot of digging to find where I put my ND filters so many years ago. Good news for me being a Nikon user I still have manual focus lenses with the 52mm filter size that work quite well on my D750.
I've stopped counting.

henryaz Great picture!! You should visit Kansas. You can take that same picture and capture the entire storm from some distance. It always amazed me visiting my Dad there, you can see the horizon in every direction.

DeqlynLizard love the pic, hope you dont mind, I am learning photoshop again and thought I would mess with the levels a bit. Increased the highs and mids and dropped the lows a bit. Obviously subjective and nothing wrong with the RAW pic!

Rustybladevery good picture. Density & contrast make it rather compelling. You have a tripod and may try a trick astronomers use to bring out detail without softening the image from blurring -- take 1 pic per second and than stack them.
