sdyTicks. Yuck
I've been on a wooded lot a few times over the last few weeks.
Keep getting the smallest ticks I've ever seen.
1 mm in diameter

Sunset_VaTicks here were minimal this year.
However all it took was one small one like you pictured to give me my second case of Rocky Mountain Spotted fever.

flesheatingvirusDamn baby ticks. They love to go for the balls (not kidding). And boy does that itch after you get them off.

mke229Get yourself some Permethrin spray. It works amazingly well. If you find ticks on you they’ll be dead. I’ve had great luck with aerosol as well.

Same here, never saw ticks that small before. I have found 5 of the tiny suckers on me in the last month. They make a chigger size bump even if you find them before they start feeding. I thought by Aug-Sep ticks were past the 1st generation. My Beagle must be bringing them in, but I have only found one on him.

fiasconvaCould be a deer tick. They are the ones that carry lymme disease. If you've found any that have seized on you it may be a good idea to get screened.

justjoeThat looks like a deer tick. Keep an eye on the bite site, and see if you develop a rash. It doesn't always happen if the tick carries Lyme disease, but often you will get a "bullseye" rash.
I don't mean to be an alarmist, but just pay attention. Lyme only becomes serious when it goes undiagnosed for a long time.

henryaz Yet another one to worry about, the
Asian long-horned tick has invaded. They carry a deadly virus and can carry other pathogens (such as Lyme disease). They have killed young cattle because they swarm all over them and drain their blood. And they are very hard to kill due to surviving cold weather. The female can lay hundreds of fertile eggs without mating.

BassamaticWe call those sea ticks. Ticks are everywhere in these parts but they don't cause me near the grief that chiggers cause.

In Middle TN "seed" ticks are even smaller little red fuckers. They get all over your legs while sitting in the brush at the edge of a dove field. The tiny ticks shown in the photo I have only seen this year in Aug & Sep.

Exactly what I use hunting, since I’ve started with that I’ve never had another tick on me. It seems to keep mosquitoes away too but you have to treat your clothing and let it dry before wearing.

cparktdPermethrin, the pre-treated clothes you can buy have it and claim it persist through several laundry cycles.
I have treated my own and it seems to work.
I use the concentrate and mix a 5 gallon bucket full then soak some paints, socks, underwear, and shirts to wear when expecting heavy exposure. After line drying I put them in a separate bin to help remember which I treated.
I need to do some again now...
I also keep a can of Deet in my truck...

charlie12Seed ticks are a bitch in the south. I'm lucky I haven't had any in years
