If you want deterrence:
(1) End all social welfare for illegals,
(2) Make employing illegals a crime with a minimum of 5 years per illegal employed,
(3) Make renting to illegals a crime with a minimum of 5 years per illegal housed, and
(4) End the endless process of due process - once caught, hold one hearing to decide all matters related to immigration; unless the person is granted asylum there and then, AMF them back to whatever country they came from.

That and a wall might get the desired results.

Even simpler. Just end all social welfare. When everyone here has a choice of working or starving to death you won’t need illegals because you’ll actually be able to find Americans to work.

In 1986 migration was fixed. All the current problem we have were fixed.So what happened.

1 Social welfare. Today if one person is a citizen, any number of a family can live in subsidized housing. Say “anchor baby?”
2 this is bypassed by subcontracting work and prohibiting employers from examining documents too closely. Plus the find is only $50.

4.”Catch and release” means almost 40% of illegals don’t show up for court. Given overloaded facilities, and illegals being given scripts to ask for asylum, and sanctuary cites. Things won’t change.

The immigration reform act of 1986 tried to fix things. However, even before it took effect, special interest groups fought to gut it. There’s no change things will really change.

Now pull $$ from the sanctuary cities and put that toward the wall as well.
