I know at my age that I don’t do well with human relationships. I’m impatient, despise what I perceive as ignorance, opinionated, hard-headed; I am the depression-era grandfather that raised me as a dad. At the same time I don’t feel like I’m losing much.

The few of you I’ve met I appreciate it greatly but I always feel like I leave the meeting having not fulfilled my end of the bargain. I don’t like small talk, I only like talking about what I know, which often comes off as egotistical.

So with that I tend to be very deeply attached to my animals, we talk but I never talk about myself, I talk to her. She always likes what I’m saying and I don’t have to hear any follow up commentary later. It’s no wonder we have kept them around and I’m certain that without them we wouldn’t be anywhere near where we are now.

Or arrogant. I know it well. I'm very much the same way. Unless we have a common interest I've little to say.

I appreciate the companionship of a good dog. I have been dogless for a few years after my last lab passed. The wife ( a far better partner than I deserve) and I have considered another dog , but our work schedules ( long hours unexpected long days, for me sudden calls that can occur any time to fix broken bones) make us and especially her thinking it would not be fair to a dog to leave them alone that long.
There is a reason dog is god spelled backwards

Good grief! I'll admit I freaked out a little the first time I saw my dog sleeping on her back like that. Thought she was a goner, just like in the cartoons. I spoke to her and she flipped to her feet in a microsecond, then looked at me as if to say, "What? You didn't see anything."

God bless America.
