In that scenario, the wife should text, or call from the kids on her own phone. While I'm driving, my phone is connected to Bluetooth, so any phone call that needed to be dealt with would be Hands Free anyway! ____________________________________________________________ If Some is Good, and More is Better.....then Too Much, is Just Enough !! Of course I have a passcode on my phone. To not have one would be folly, and they don't need access to banking or credit cards or the like, to cause problems for you. They have access to the phone, and all my contacts. They can see my emergency contacts, and from that information alone, could determine my home address. They can see all my photos and that, too, gives them plenty of information. If you think having to punch in four digits to unlock your phone is inconvenient, you ain't seen nothin' until your unlocked phone is found by the wrong person. How about phone calls to your friends or family (posing as law enforcement or emergency medical personnel), telling them that you died today? How about texts - posing as you- to your associates, or perhaps law enforcement, making threats? You think there aren't people who will do stuff like that? Stubborn is one thing, guys. Outright foolishness is something else altogether. Lock your phone. If they can't get in, they'll just wipe it. If you have your data backed up, a trip to the phone store will be all it takes to get back on track.

You can mix it up as well. Passcode to unlock the phone and Face ID for the rest once the phone is unlocked.

Discussions like this are very enlightening. As I’ve said before, I’ve learned more about other people from this forum than I have learned about guns and shooting. Everyone has their own needs and desires but I cannot imagine having so much of my life tied to an electronic device that could be lost, stolen, or destroyed in an instant. I (dimly) understand that it may be necessary to a degree for some people’s lifestyles, but I can only thank Elvis that it’s not required for me (at least one benefit of being an old fart). I nevertheless have no fingerprint or facial ID set up and my passcode requires more than four numbers. ► 6.0/94.0 “The fundamental cause of trouble in the world today is that the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt.” — Bertrand Russell

The last phone I had that did NOT have a passcode was a Motorola StarTAC! ____________________________________________________________ If Some is Good, and More is Better.....then Too Much, is Just Enough !! Good point. I didn’t know that. With a decent six-digit lock code it’s a good balance of security and convenience. Serious about crackers.

I have facial ID and a password. If it is dark or I have on a hat and sunglasses, it might ask for the password.

I use a code but also enabled the feature that will wipe my phone if there are more than 10 attempts to unlock it. No face and no fingerprint.

I have a passcode and also use the facial recognition on my iPhone. I do not believe there is a way to set a time period of how often you have to re-enter the passcode if you also use facial recognition. If you do not use facial recognition and use a passcode, then you would have to enter the passcode everytime to unlock your phone. Mine seems to do it randomly or after a reboot then it requires the passcode. My work iPhone requires me to change my passcode every 90 days. NRA Benefactor Life Member

As a 20 year law enforcement officer, I absolutely have a passcode on my phone and I would never let anyone from law enforcement access it without a warrant and an attorney. And even then I might take the contempt charge, depending on the situation. Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here. Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard. -JALLEN "All I need is a WAR ON DRUGS reference and I got myself a police thread BINGO." -jljones

^^^^ I may be wrong, but I suspect that some folks believe that “having an iPhone passcode” means that Face ID isn’t enabled. But I have a “passcode”, AKA “screen lock code”, AND I generally have Face ID enabled. Serious about crackers.

To lock your iPhone, you must set a passcode. Face ID is optional, but you have to enable it and have a passcode for your iPhone to use it.

Having thought about it only for a moment, I'm not sure I have a problem with that. This will be interesting to watch. Politicians seem to have forgotten that they work for us, not the other way around. — — — — — — — — — — — — God bless America.

A search warrant can be written to compel you to use biometrics to unlock your phone, but they can’t force you to give the passcode you possess in your head. If you refuse to give your passcode, then the phone will still be seized and sit in evidence until something like Graykey is updated for your phone software to try and hack it open. I have never had a problem getting the passcode voluntarily from suspects or victims who both initially refused to others due to other stuff on their phones. People have crazy crap on their phones!!! I have seen some very weird stuff I had to go through looking for what I needed. NRA Benefactor Life Member

I wish that Apple offered this feature -- a PIN that would wipe the phone. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים
