Who is in control of our lives, destinies, and all things?

Question:
Who Really Controls The World?

Choices:
1) Nobody. Billions of planets, and we are just a speck on one of them. That's us, lost in space.
2) God is in control. He has a plan for us, even if we may not see it.
3) Humankind is in control of our lives. Everything is our responsiblity, succeed or fail.
4) The Devil is in control. What else explains the turmoil in the Earth?
5) Other. Explain.

My answer would be a combination of the two.
God has a plan, but humans are given free-will.
We don't always follow the plan. We try to do good but sometimes we fail, and we sin and we harm people but we shake it off and try to do good again.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster.

The world is not your friend, although it may seem like it is at times. On the other hand, the world is not out to get you, although it may seem like it is at times.

The truth is, the world simply doesn't care about you.

A man owned a house threatened by a flood. The police came and told him to evacuate. He said "I will stay here. God will take care of me."

The waters rose, and he was forced to the second floor. A boat came by to rescue him, but he said "I will stay here. God will take care of me."

The waters rose more, and he was forced to the roof. A helicopter came to rescue him, but he said "I will stay here. God will take care of me."

Soon after, the house was washed away and the man drowned. In heaven, he asked God why he was allowed to die. God said "I sent a police man, a boat, and a helicopter. What more did you want?"

Which is to say:

There may be a plan, God may be in control, but you still have to act.
