When being on lock down, its time to learn something new
Sometime ago I dropped my cellphone. That drop apparently killed part of the rear facing camera as it would no longer focus. Kind of a drag having a cellphone without a working camera. Even though the phone is 4/5 years old, I still really like it, so instead of buying something new, I instead opted to try and fix it. Never done any cellphone repair before, so this was something totally new to me. After watching a few YouTube videos, it was time to take a stab at it.

Setup is done. Time to have at it.

First good sign. Managed to remove the screen and separate the body without breaking anything.

Removed the motherboard, then removed the camera module

New camera module ready to go

Then reversed the process and put it all back together, again with no damage (thank god).

And here ya go with a sample shot from the phone and its new camera module. Not bad for a 4/5 year old phone. Smile

So all in, I spent $17 on the camera module and had fun learning something new. Smile

Good stuff, dude! Good job!

I've started studying for the private pilot test. I'm 38 and getting my pilot license has always been something I wanted to do.

Nicely done.

Should encourage other forum members to do other things never done before.

That's great. My list includes fixing a Marantz 2215B and replacing the o-rings in a Crosman 1300 pellet gun.

Congratulations to you. I made the same choice to repair my own iPhone years ago, my results were not favorable! I now pay for insurance on all our phones, much less painful.

Those damn video's make me think---- "oh, I can do that" Not always the case!

But--- those video's have taught me how to build guns successfully too.

Great job! I should try to do some of this. My sons iPad needs a new charge port.

I envy your inquisitiveness. I'm 69 and I don't want to learn anything new. I hate putting together anything I don't already know how to do and I don't want to learn anything new. I've got a couple of walkin doors that have been in primer for 2 years because I'm too sorry to put a finish coat. I mow the grass and set up at the gun shows before the quarantine but now I piddle around, generally cook one good meal a day and spend the rest of the time loafing on the computer.

I'm trying to get more serious about my guitar practice. I'm not very good but I enjoy plunking around with it, so I upgraded to a D'Angelico acoustic and have been committing myself to at least 30 min a day.

Well, I got around to moving two switches in the bath/dressing area from one wall to the opposite wall. They’re no longer behind the door. One of those jobs that waited almost 10 years to get done.

Also training a puppy right now. 14 week old Border Collie. Needle teeth and little wounds on my arms and hands. She is learning to “play nice”. Have had her about 3 weeks. House broken, knows her name - Maggie, no, home, walk, dinner and good girl. Also rings the bell that hangs by the door so she can go out for her business.

Replacing rubber parts on recent motorcycle purchase - ‘75 Yamaha RD350. Currently stalled while awaiting parts.

Lawn looks about ready for first cut....

As for learning something new, maybe I’ll figure out how to add pictures here....

I’m relearning an ancient, but marvelously useful, programming language, SNOBOL4, that I last used 30 years ago. Fun for me, and so happy to have it again.

I've been putting it off since we got married 46 years ago, so my wife is teaching me how to cuss in Korean!

Good job,

Spent the weekend installing all new brake pads on the RX300 and one new rotor, son in law bought it from my parents as they no longer needed the vehicle, seems he neglected to mention that the pads were dragging, first time I moved it the problem was obvious and cost an extra $100 for new front rotors...

It also now needs a new AC compressor/clutch so that's on the list of things to you toob...

Out of necessity, I learned to cut my own hair last week. I'm 73 and have been retired for several years. I have been surprised at somethings I can do that I didn't think possible in years past.

With lots of spare time and you-tube videos, it seems almost anything is possible.

I'm messing around with the idea of learning Clair de lune (I'm 2 pages in). Technically, it's not as hard as this piece I learned for Christmas https://youtu.be/EaKPGbhyf04
But to play it right, is another matter especially as I only took lessons off and on for about four years and quit over 40 years ago and will be doing this on my own. My girls don't think I have the patience to learn it correctly. We'll see. I did learn O Holy Night in D flat (above) arranged by Marshal Mcdonald and it required time to play it correctly.

Edited to add that is not me playing
