Smschulz, I ran through that. I finally rebooted my mofi router. (we are cellular internet here in the boonies.) that cleared up the cpu, even though flushing the dns, and clearing cookies did not. It did not explain why my phone on cellular not on our wifi cellular was experiencing the same thing. I rebooted it a second ago, and it popped back up and is working.

Just odd,

Edit, I will ad that the mofi is atnt sim, the phone is verizon sim.

Got one for investors.com this morning. Did not do anything to fix, just retried later and worked OK. Never seen that before!

Foreign (one presumes) actors are constantly attacking our network infrastructure.

A lot of stuff on the Internet is now supplied, not by the companies or organizations whose name is on the product or service, but by content distribution/delivery networks (CDNs) such as AWS (Amazon), Akamai, CloudFlare, etc. When one of those CDNs is crippled, sometimes a whole big chunk of "the Internet" may appear to be down.

A 502 (Bad Gateway) error is symptomatic of just such a problem. You can actually reach the load-balancing gateway for a service, but the bits stop there. One way you can sometimes identify that as the culprit is you can ping the destination (you're actually hitting the gateway), but HTTP/HTTPS returns a 502 error. This is as opposed to an "unable to connect" or "connection refused" error from a site, which indicates the site's web service is down.

As an aside: I've become so fed up with incessant attacks from Chinese netblocks I've taken to just outright blackholing them, wholesale.

I got one pointing to Cloudflare. Then I read this:

You can't truly call yourself "peaceful" unless you are capable of great violence. If you're not capable of great violence, you're not peaceful, you're harmless.
