Anyone wear them? True to size? Comparable to Darn Tough? Thanks.

They are good to good and true to size for me. I find them a little softer then Darn Tough in my hand when new but my feet never notice the difference. I have both and buy whatever is on sale. Full price heck even sale prices for them is crazy now but my feet really like wool socks.

Ymmv and depends on the model. But for me, darn tough is by far superior. Hands down. I’ve stopped buying smart wool products all together, not just socks. Over priced and wore out way too quickly. In contrast, none of my darn tough socks have worn out despite purchasing at the same time.

Same here, my Darn Tough socks seem to be more durable than my Smartwool.

Have a couple tall boot socks from Smart Wool. While nice, I dont think they'll hold up as well as other brands. Have not worn them enough to give a full review.

Have some Darn Tough socks. While I like them, they are short.

My preferred wool sock brand is Red Wing.
Medium weight and lifetime guarantee.

Red Wing # 1643, come in brown or black.

Bought a couple Woolrich pairs (clearance sale) at Meijer, while nice socks, they did NOT last.

After trying merino wool socks, it is the only socks I now wear.
Wools socks, absolutely blows away cotton socks!

No issues whatsoever. Darn Tough socks and Smartwool comprise the majority of my boot and cold weather sock brands.

I’m using Darn Tough now, haven’t had them long enough to give an opinion concerning longevity. Smartwool socks were okay but nothing great. Excam_Man I’m sorry to hear about your Woolrich socks, I had several pair of their 10 mile hikers and they were the best I’ve ever used.

I have the Darn Tough standard mid-calf socks that I've been wearing for about 4 years now & they show no signs of wear. Their chart recommended a Large for my boot size, but I ordered a size larger, and I'm glad I did.

Bought my first pair of Darn Tough and loved them. Unfortunately, that was right before George Floyd and when I went to buy more, DT's website was festooned with BLM propaganda, which is still available on their website as part of their corporate identity. [sigh]

Just thought I'd share.

That is damned unfortunate. I haver been wearing Darn Toughs for a long time, and have taken advantage of their very easy guarantee, which resulted in three brand new pairs of socks at no expense. They are in Vermont, which is quite left-leaning, so the BLM sympathy makes sense. I actually lived the first 18 years of my life in VT; my parents and brother still live there. I settled in GA, which feels more like home than Vermont ever did or could.

Glad I got all I need before all that started.

Why do these companies feel the need to go public & proclaim themselves woke? They probably won't gain any customers, but many customers like me will certainly think twice about buying anything from them....ever again.

I love SmartWool Socks but over time they fall off my feet. The top looses its tension and they end up by my ankles. I have moved over to Cabela's / Bass Pro socks that are a bit taller and have more tension at the top. Even the Browning Brands seems to hold up better than my SmartWool. I can't really tell if any of these socks are warmer than each other they all keep my feet warm.

Hard to see in photo, but the elastic on the top of SmartWool is rolling down. If I am wearing a hiking style boot I don't have the problem, but rubber boots the smartwool's falls down a lot.

I, too, stopped buying Darn Tough socks after they sided with BLM. Also, for me, their socks wear out in the heel and a couple of spots on the sole pretty quickly (4-6 months). While the rest of the sock is fine, those places go threadbare in a hurry and I am using them just for casual wear - no hiking, extreme sports, etc.

Also, Darn Tough socks (again, for me) pill really badly so that most of the sock is covered in pilling in a few months. I've followed sock washing directions and turn them inside out when washing but it doesn't help.

Recently I've come across another sock company called Point6. They also use Merino wool blends and so far I'm liking the couple pair of their socks I've purchased. I don't have any long-term results yet but it looks promising as to wear and pilling.

https://point6.com/

As they are expensive, I'd recommend getting on their mailing list and waiting for one of their sales.

Never owned any Darn Tough socks and the price will keep me away. I don't care how good they are or the warranty may be. Paying $25-$50 for a pair of socks is a little rich for me.
I have a number of Smartwool socks, some from well over a decade ago and had been very happy with those. In more recent years their quality seems to have slipped a lot.
I used to get them by cashing in points on my business credit card (LL Bean) but they have since started selling their own LL Bean brand and those are clearly CCP sourced and no where near the quality.
Smartwool still claim to be made in the USA but "from materials sourced from around the world". That's a way of implying New Zealand and Australia when I suspect it's a from a land a good bit north of those places.

Yes, Smart Wool socks are true-to-size.
I recently discovered Farm To Feet socks via the Orvis website www.orvis.com
and really, really like them for my purposes. The Orvis-branded wool hiking socks are also good to go in my book. Very durable.

One thing to point out, when washing socks with a high Merino wool content, is when you wash them, 1) turn them inside-out and 2) don't bake them in the drier.

When you turn them inside-out, its easier to washout the sweat & bacteria you generate on the inside, which helps increase longevity. By not leaving them in the drier until full dry, you keep the fibers from drying out which allows the sock to retain their soft, suppleness. Nothing worse than shoving your foot into a sock that feels like sandpaper, then tightening your laces around it.

The ol' Army-issue off-white chunky wool socks are pretty stinkin' badass, US-made, and you can get them for next to nothing. You gotta have a little room in your boots for those bad boys though. I reckon a proper cold weather boot should have some room in it anyway.

Good advise from Corsair.

The brand that I purchase warns that wearing your socks on the carpet is tough on socks.

I've been buying Wigwam brand of socks. They wear very well and have kept my feet dry and warm while standing on the ice all day fishing. Had boots on too of course! Razz Made in USA as well.
