Been adding some items to the camper here and there, French press, tiny vacuum, galley items, etc.

One I’m on the fence on is putting 1-2 20L scepter water cans in the teardrop for water use. Currently I put 2-3 of the 2.5G water jugs from the store in there.

This is one I’m really on the fence about. In the long run they will save me money but are they any more practical that just plain old bottled water jugs?

Anyone have any experience or insight I may be missing.

If in the long run they will save you money...then what's left to consider? They look sturdy and less prone to leaking, as well as being in a more convenient/standardize form factor.

I would, of course, dilute a little bleach and sterilize the container from time to time.

If you are on the fence, the "civilian" light blue containers with the smaller refill hole is like half the price.

IF..IF they work as intended, I'll likely break even without having to buy water after 5-6 weekend trips.

I've just always associated the "Jerry Can" thing with being a bit over the top I guess. So I was hesitant to buy them. I'm not overlanding or anything lol, pulling into a campsite and putting the awning up.

I've got two on order, I'll see how they hold up for the weekend trip at the end of the month.

I mean, I don't have those particular cans, but have been using similar rigid plastic containers for my camping needs for something like 25 years? They practically last forever, and it appears that I go about 10-12 years before they're beat up enough to justify a new one.

Some of the perks:

1) I haven't had one leak, whereas the 2.5 gallon super market containers leak pretty much every time after they've been open. The opening is up-facing in storage position.

2) You can put a spout assembly with a shut off for gravity fed hand washing. You can tie a bar of soap inside of a nylon stocking to the handle for convenience, though I pretty much prefer pump soap these days.

3) You can find adapters for the threaded opening so you plumb in pumps and tubing and whatnot. If you buy one more than you need for storage, you can plumb in a gravity style water filter inline between two or more for emergency water filtration.

4) Tall and narrow form factor is more space efficient in many applications. Easier to place two containers side by side for 10 gallons instead of 4 of the supermarket containers. The supermarket containers don't stack well at all.

I’ve had a Scepter water can riding on the back bumper of my truck for several years and 40k+ miles. A good deal of that off road. Several more in the basement for emergency use.

I have three of the Scepter 20L containers, olive drab, water treated with a tiny bit of chlorine. Bought them maybe 4 years ago, no leaks, the spout system is extremely well made. I can't remember what I paid for them, but they were kind of pricey at the time, but IMO worth the cost. I used to have a blue food safe 50 gal. drum filed with treated water along with a bung/siphon kit, but I got rid of the stuff when I moved. I simply had no room for them anymore. The Scepter containers are easy to move around and obviously take up less space.

They make great fuel containers. Never used the water ones though. I have Blitz, Reliance and the clear round ones with Handles, and others. All American made. None have had any issues in the years I have used. . They have worked great. I see no need to spend huge $ for quality water containers.

There's a handful of solid brands for water storage/transportation.

I've been using these from Reliance for several years now. No issues, I use/rotate the water yearly.

I had several of the 7 gal. blue ones and they eventually leaked after maybe 5-7 years. Reason I bought the Scepter ones.
