I grew up in North Wales with my grandparents - my grandfather was my grandma's second husband, her first having been killed on the Somme in June 1917. Naturally, he was a Welsh-first speaker, as was his entire family, so for almost four years, that was me, too. When I went back there to school some years later, I was put straight into the Welsh class, since I was already deemed fluent, but remember that I was sharing the class with other kids for whom it was their first language, and it was a hard slog to keep up.

I still have lot of it, and try to use it whenever we visit Wales. It comes back after a few days, and although I'm not as fluent as a native, but not too far behind, either. My wife is half-welsh, but doesn't understand a word of it, and fails dismally at even reading road-signs, many of which, in North Wales, do not have English on them, at all.

Welsh is NOT a manufactured language - an easily recognisable form of it was spoken here before the Romans arrived in 44AD, and of course, it is still spoken today, whereas it's a very rare person who can hold a conversation in Latin,

Y'see, it's NOT four L's in a row, it's the ending of one word and the beginning of another - DROBWLL – the mutated form of trobwll which means whirlpool in Welsh. Say, roughly, tro-boolth.

..and LLAN – The word for church or enclosure. Say, roughly, thlan.

In English, for instance, Llanfair means the church of St Mary. Mair [MIRE] is the Welsh version of Mary, but after a consonant it mutates to -fair. Say, roughly. vire. One 'f' = v sound. Two 'ff' = English EFF sound.

All Celtic languages do this letter-change thing to make the sound easier - even the Q-Celtic types like Irish and Manx.

"If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Not just on the easy ones; you take the tough ones too…” – MAJ Richard D. Winters (1918-2011), E Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne

"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24

I have no idea what you mean about 'click bait'. As far as I'm aware this is a perfectly valid thread, and quite interesting for me, at least.

So, I've taken the liberty of translating your 'line' into North Welsh as best as I can.

'Gwae'r rhai sy'n galw drwg yn dda, ac yn ddrwg da. Felly, wrth i dafodau tân lyfu gwellt ac wrth i laswellt sych suddo i lawr yn y fflamau, felly bydd eu gwreiddiau'n dadfeilio a'u blodau'n chwythu i ffwrdd fel llwch; canys maent wedi gwrthod deddf yr Arglwydd Hollalluog ac wedi ysbeilio gair yr un sanctaidd Israel.' Isaiah 5:20 -24.

My response is to slightly lift my shoulders. All of my wife's family that stayed in and married locally in North Wales are bi-lingual, but prefer to use their native language. I'm not classed as good enough to be called bi-lingual any more, but I know enough not to make a fool of myself in the company of Welsh-speaking locals when we go back there - which is often. And yes, now and then I use the help of my presentation 'Geiriadur Mawr' - 'big dictionary', presented to me by the Welsh Language Society for my efforts, as a foreigner, to foster the use of the original language of Mainland Great Britain before the Romans came.
