Senator Kaine seems to have forgotten that We the People limit the power and authority of the three branches of federal government.

From FoxNews: "Dem senator compares American founding principle to Iran’s theocracy: ‘Extremely troubling'"

A Senate Democrat compared language from one of the nation’s founding documents to that of Iran during a Senate hearing considering President Donald Trump’s nominees.

Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., pushed back against the opening statement of Riley Barnes, who was tapped by Trump to serve as assistant secretary of state for democracy, human rights and labor, during a Senate Foreign Relations hearing Wednesday.

Barnes quoted Secretary of State Marco Rubio in his opening remarks, telling lawmakers on the panel, "We are a nation founded on a powerful principle, and that powerful principle is that all men are created equal, because our rights come from God our Creator — not from our laws, not from our governments.

"The secretary went on to say that we will always be strong defenders of that principle, and that’s why the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor is important," he said. "We are a nation of individuals, each made in the image of God and possessing an inherent dignity. This is a truth that our founders understood as essential to American self-government."

But Kaine, who is a Catholic, found Barnes’ sentiment "troubling."

"The notion that rights don't come from laws and don't come from the government, but come from the Creator, that's what the Iranian government believes," Kaine said. "It's a theocratic regime that bases its rule on Shia law and targets Sunnis, Bahá’ís, Jews, Christians and other religious minorities.

"And they do it because they believe that they understand what natural rights are from their Creator," he continued. "So, the statement that our rights do not come from our laws or our governments is extremely troubling."

We are a nation of laws, and the foundation of it all is the belief that man has certain unalienable rights; Life, Liberty, the Pursuit of Happiness, et cetera. Life and Liberty, for just one example, extend from the Bill of Rights. Liberty is tied directly to the Second Amendment.

Application of these concepts in our laws- that the individual is, at their most basic level, free and has the right to exist- does not make the United States a theocracy.

Whether or not one believes in God becomes secondary in the discussion, since even atheists claim their right to exist and to defend that existence. The Constitution does not apply only to those who believe in God.

It is no surprise that a Democrat Congressman is unable to embrace such concepts. Their overarching desire is for the State, not the individual.

My goodness, I really, really dislike this man.

Hey idiot, substitute nature or a fucking flying spaghetti monster, or whatever you want. The point is that our freedom is not derived from law, but is inherent in our freedom as man.

As it should be to any megalomaniac like Kaine! This statement completely illustrates that he wants to be a God over her fellow humans. I am ashamed that my fellow Virginians voted him into office, and even more so that he has remained there as long as he has. We have another Senator named Warner that is almost as bad.

Here is hoping that the electorate will soon wake up and send this slime down the road, preferably wearing a nice thick coat of tar and feathers!

Kaine is simply a grifter that married into a big political family in VA to get where he is,

he is more a Narcissist than anything, wearing the Democrat party cloak while thinking of nothing but himself,

Warner, who promised to only be in office for a couple of seasons, has yet to step down, despite his promises 12 or so years ago, and seems to thing POV camera angles of his big nose in a car while ranting about basically nothing it being a senator

Seriously, the last 2 decades of (D) VP candidates have been real gems. Biden, Kaine, Harris, Walz. A real display of the brain trust.

Lieberman and edwards while not ideal at least would have been tolerable. The names above are just loony tunes
