Apple bought a German subscription classical music streaming service, Primephonic. They have now made it their own and the app is Apple Classical. If you subscribe to Apple Music it is free. Most streaming services can’t really deal well with long classical pieces. _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

Just wanted to circle back to this. I’m ordering a set of MartinLogan Motion F10 floorstanding speakers to replace the setup I currently have in the intended room. My reasons are that - I loved the sound of the MartinLogan Motion bookshelves I was able to hear. - I need to have the speakers in a corner, and a “sudo” corner, which is really just a pocket-wall between my LR and my DR. These are ported at the bottom, which will have less of an impact on the sound whereas rear ports would certainly be an influence. - The physical size is great for the room. - I can get them in white which, as many of you know, is important to peace in my home^H^H^H^Htime. - The R700 Polk speakers, which I found locally so I could see/hear them, are simply too chunky/large for the room. (The R700 speakers sound amazing, but even with the ports on the bottom, they’re just too big.) I think that’s it so far, and I’ll report back with pictures etc. I wish I could have heard the MartinLogan Motion Foundation series in my living room. They’re smaller, look like they use much of the same technology, and they’re cheaper. They’re rear ported though and it makes me nervous that I can’t hear them anywhere locally or in my living room. “The urge to save humanity is almost always only a false-face for the urge to rule it.”—H.L. I posted the 590’s earlier in the thread and told him to wait until they go on sale. Probably around Black Friday. They’ll go down to $499 each for the 590’s, and they are monsters, and maybe even $399. And the best part is $0 shipping cost. For the money they are the best speakers made today with the bi-radial horns. I have the 580’s as the 590’s were not needed for my room size. I run them with the 520c, and 530’s for sides and rears. And 210’s overhead for Atmos. It’s funny because some member accused me of being some grey poupon eating mother fucker where I’m shitting money on or something. I have 11 speakers in my HT, and I paid $1650 for all 11 speakers, new. Just had to sit back and watch the market on the JBL 5 series. Wait until they went rock bottom and bought in. I love the horns and speakers in general I bought a 2nd setup for 7.1 for my MB with the same 520c center, 580 towers for my LCR, and 530’s for sides and rears. Cannot be beat for the $. I turned rainman on here to them and he bought the Monster 590’s when they are at rock bottom prices and he’s been blown away with them. And he does eat Grey Poupon and has an elaborate, mega powered, HT. What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Kind of in the same boat. I just moved to Georgia last year. During the move, there was a fork in the road when I thought about donating all my CDs that was in the basement at my last house...about 600 of them. I brought them here and my Paradigm Monitor 7s. For the Cds, I bought a Brennan B2 and ripped them all to it. It's now connected to my Sonos system as a music library. Its actually great having all my music at my fingertip. I have an ARC and a couple of Sonos ones in the house. In my bonus room, I am comtemplating either using my Pardigm with a SONOS Amp or getting a Sonos Link with a AMP. First thought is the AMP will be more seamless than the other setup. Anyone ever tried the two different setup?

Nice. I've heard really good things about the updated Motion line. I've listened to the Motion XT bookshelf speakers and rather liked them, but decided to go with the Focal Arias that were on sale. Enjoy.

I've read a lot of great things about Focal. I heard a set of bookshelves and they sounded great too! “The urge to save humanity is almost always only a false-face for the urge to rule it.”—H.L. Mencken

Partial dichotomy |
Veeper, your decision has made me want to listen to the Classic ESL9. A bit on the high side price wise, but if I like them, they'd probably be the last speakers I'd ever buy. I wonder if they have the same minimum distance rule that the Magneplaners do? With the integral bass speakers I assume they may be different. Anyone?

DanH and others: any thoughts on the Focal Chora speakers? Attaching to an Integra receiver and CD player for jazz, classical, acoustic/vocals. Small room/office. This would be a purchase sans audition so appreciate any inputs. "Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it." I just read on their site that the speakers should not be located closer than 2 1/2' from the wall.

Chora ate mid entry level and has been around a while with no updates Id look at at the theva (upper entry) or vestia (low mid tier) Each have improved drivers as they are newer lines with some trickle down tech used, for not much more cost Chorus- Chora- theva Vestia- Aria- Kanta Sopra- Utopia- Utopia III Some put the Kanta’s below the Sopra ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Live today as if it may be your last and learn today as if you will live forever

Thanks. It seems like the Chora are not made in France. Only the drivers which I guess is important. Disappointing though. I hope at least not chicom. The Chora 806 new in box for $400 for a pair - good deal? I’m a little hesitant given not fully made in France but the reviews seem good. But I trust the opinions here most. If $400 sounds good, I’ll pick them up. If something else is still recommended, the Aria bookshelves are available for $1000-ish. How much better could they be in a crappy 10x10 room though…..? The Chora line is being discontinued is why you are seeing such good pricing Focal listened to its employees and is bring all manufacturing back to France. The entry lines were indeed made in China. Though according to PTA (Part time audiophile) the Chora line is made in France. If you can get a pair for 400 that’s a great deal since that’s typically what they cost each ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Live today as if it may be your last and learn today as if you will live forever

All of Focal's Home Theater Speakers are Made in France including their cabinets. The last line that was built in China was the Chorus 700, but they've been discontinued for years. The Choras on closeout are a hell of a deal, although the Thevas are built better. The Arias are going to sound warmer and have better, punchier bass, but like the Choras, they're an older line that have been equaled by the Vestia line for less money (even with the Arias on sale). But for $400, you aren't going to find better speakers than the Chora 806.

Thanks guys! Summarizing what I'm hearing: 1. Chora is older line and is being discontinued 2. Chora is made in France (yay!) 3. Based on "normal" pricing, there are better sounding speakers, even w/in the Focal lineup in this price ballpark ($1000 per pair). (seems like Aria (on sale), Vestia and Theva can be had for $1000-1200 pair at the moment; Chora normally about $800 pair). In this case, spend a little extra and get the Vestia or Theva. 4. Chora 806 $400 pair is a great deal - will sound great for $400 5. I'm partial to Paradigm but the next price up from $400 for both Focal and Paradigm is basically $1000 6. Chora 806 in small 10x10 for music only should more than satisfy my acoustic needs. Again, $400 is a great deal for this level of acoustic and build quality and satisfaction. Combining all of the above and especially considering #6, sounds like I will be happy w/ the Chora purchase. No returns and no audition had me hesitant. But w/ your inputs and that the Chora (relative to my needs) are decent sounding in the absolute sense (and will be sufficient for me), nothing better at $400, improvements at $1000 (next alternative) are likely not material for this situation, and not made in chicom, then this is an excellent choice. Will go pick them up. Any thoughts on break-in? "Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it." L.Tolstoy "A government is just a body of people, usually, notably, ungoverned." Oh come on guys! In the best reflection of the way things are done on Sigforum, step up to the plate and buy a pair of Klipsch Cornerhorns! You know you want them! And maybe a Belle Klipsch center channel to add some fill. LOL! Pretty much. As far as Paradigm goes, the Chora competed with the Premier 200B at $1K a pair, but are marked down to the price of the Monitors. Focals have a very airy sound with a very wide dispersion with the inverted dome tweeters. The downside on the Focal sound which is consistent between all models is you get bass punch but not a lot of bass boom. If you want to mine the depths of the low end, a subwoofer will be required for home theater and hard core rap/nu-metal. The only downside on the Choras themselves are the plastic waveguide around the tweeter can become discolored in the lighter finishes. It was annoying at $1K a pair, but for 60% off, that becomes less of an issue. As far as break in, just use them. They aren't extremely high end speakers with large and complex motor systems that need days of playing to loosen up. You'll get a little improvement, but it's not like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly levels of difference.

I only wish I could fit a set of speakers like that in my home. I'm in a garrison-colonial that's only 2500sqft, but it's plopped smack dab between my kids' middle-school and high-school. It's about 100yrds to either school, they walk rain or shine, and being this close for the busiest years of their lives (that I'm responsible for transportation anyway), is simply something that a pair of Klipschorn AK6 or La Scala AL5 can't compete with, in terms of space needed to house them. Not that I wouldn't be willing to try, if they managed to find their way into my home for the right price. That being said, the Motion F10s (in white) are set to arrive on the 5th. Now to have the conversation with my wife. “The urge to save humanity is almost always only a false-face for the urge to rule it.”—H.L. Mencken

Thanks! Sounds like I'll be happy with the Chora acoustic quality (will not be playing rock, rap and more boomy stuff; maybe cello concertos but seems like these speakers will be able to handle). And doubly so at half price. Music to my ears. I've always bought used speakers so wasn't sure about break-in. I'm getting NIB at used prices so appreciate the insight. Just a tidbit of background - I'm currently using tiny surround speakers from Energy (Take?). So, I'm sure this will be a noticeable step up no matter what. You have no idea how much of a step up these are, but you will.... Focal excels at instrument separation and soundstage clarity.

Is that a thing?
