If you have an A&W close to you go in and get the root beer out of the tap with the frosted glass mug. Enjoy. Good root beer. You can also fill up a big jug to go as well and make your float own with your own ice cream.

They will also make you a good float there as well.

What’s a good root beer?

There was a small chain of drive-in root beer stands called Stewart's Root Beer which I loved when I was growing up in NJ. They had great hot dogs and excellent root beer which was served in frosted mugs. The drive-ins were scattered along the east coast but when I was talking to a relative recently, I learned that you can order the root beer from jet.com

I remember Stewarts, that's what came to mind with this title. One in Clark, one in Morganville that we frequented. Carhop service, too.

This is the drug store counter where I drank real fountain root beer and coke floats in the '50's. Syrup, carbonated water: no premix. We have a member whose mother worked there. Excuse the photo: got it off their Facebook site.

At this stage of my life it's NO root beer floats. But I did love the A&W root beer floats delivered by a cute car hop, and hung on my car window on a hot evening.

I agree. I enjoy a rooter float over even a bowl of ice cream.

Wonderful.

Barq's is too bitter, methinks. I would be afraid to ruin some ice cream trying to concoct a float with Barq's.

Try this:

Not Your Father's Root Beer. Good root beer with an alcoholic kick.

"The designer of the gun had clearly not been instructed to beat about the bush. 'Make it evil,' he'd been told. 'Make it totally clear that this gun has a right end and a wrong end. Make it totally clear to anyone standing at the wrong end that things are going badly for them. If that means sticking all sort of spikes and prongs and blackened bits all over it then so be it. This is not a gun for hanging over the fireplace or sticking in the umbrella stand, it is a gun for going out and making people miserable with." -Douglas Adams
