Tommy Emmanuel does a pretty darn good rendition of it IMHO.

I love his version!

But I also love Clapton's, Knopfler's and of course the original. Awesome song!

Yeah, the original Mason Williams version is inspired music, but old tech audio.

Several years ago, one of the local news stations used a version of this piece of music as the intro for their broadcasts. I was a kid at the time, and it was a while before I realized this was an “actual” mainstream tune.

Now all it needs is some genius film maker to make a video that will do the music justice.

Mason Williams. Jimmy Webb. Amazing talents back then.

My oldest brother knew Mason, they were in College together. I even attended the same college many years later from that time. Mason is a few years older than my brother. My brother plays the guitar as an amateur plus piano, but way back then Mason and my brother's dorm room (they were not roommates) lived a few doors down from each other in the dorm. This was 1959-1960. Brother would tell me stories about getting to hang out with Mason and was in awe of his talents. He said they never played together, Mason was just miles and miles ahead of everyone back then, just sit and listen and watch in awe.

Jimmy Webb. Check out his music too. Incredible talent as well.

That song has been one of my all-time favorites since childhood! The original is my favorite, but others have done a great job on it as well, such as the one in the OP's video link!
