Driving the Vette, got hung up behind a DOT truck repainting the fog lines on the side of the highway.
When I finally got a chance to go around him, I'd been following him at 15 or so MPH in 1st gear. Peeked, pulled out and nailed it, then about the time I was even with the driver's window, I grabbed second and actually barked the tires!
Haven't owned or driven a car that would do that since 1973!
Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

bendableMy brother fresh out of high school purchased an El Camino, to haul his construction/ carpentry tools in .
Three weeks in he found out he could third gear chirp it.
He was pretty close to installing a line lock on the front brakes .
But someone offered him a stupid amount for it , so he sold it.
It had a Hurst trans in it.
Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency.

shovelheadI did that last month while leaving a car show that a friend’s M/C sponsored.

P250UA5My 2nd car was a 1982 Mercedes 300SD turbo diesel, automatic.
It would hit 2nd gear pretty firmly, enough that it would chirp the tires going from 1st>2nd
Enough to get it sideways if you were turning on a wet day
Flat-foot shifted, my Civic would chirp 2nd, shifted at 7200RPM.

egregoreIn most states that have a provision for it, this car qualifies for an "antique" license plate. I know the temptation is great, but you shouldn't make a habit of beating up on it.

My Midget is registered as an antique.
5 yr reg, and is only like $35
Bypasses the need for annual inspection as well.
They say 'cannot be used for daily transportation' but there's no reporting requirement, so no way to really catch it.

shovelheadMichigan has two types of Historical Vehicle registration. $35.00 for ten years.
The other one is Year Of Manufacture plates. My car is registered with 1967 Michigan plates. $45.00 one time as long as same owner has it. Have had those on it since 1994.

It is registered as an antique both for tax purposes and for insurance. Haggery was <$400/yr, my regular guy (State Farm) was closer to $1200.
And you are correct, I usually drive it quite conservatively both for preservation and mileage. The passing zone was marginal and I didn't want to take any chances. The wheelspin was entirely unintentional.

Scuba Steve SigMy mom once passed a DOT paint truck painting the yellow passing line. That took forever for my dad and I to get scrubbed off and we had to use some sort of industrial solvent that probably caused the kids I conceived 20yrs later to be the way they are.
It's been awhile since I did that also, but it's always long.
