Soldier reportedly shoots wife's attacker at Fayetteville home

A man fatally shot was attacking a soldier's wife, an apartment manager told ABC11.

By Morgan Norwood
Wednesday, January 31, 2018 07:18PM FAYETTEVILLE, NC (WTVD) -- Fayetteville police are investigating after a man was found shot to death Tuesday evening in what is being called a case of a resident protecting his wife from an attacker.

The incident happened just before 10 p.m. in the 7500 block of Netherland Drive.

The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The property manager of North Ingleside Townhomes says a Fort Bragg soldier shot a man who pulled a gun on his wife while she was outside her townhome smoking a cigarette.

Apartment complex management said a husband shot a man who was trying to rob his wife.

The wife was outside smoking a cigarette when an unknown man approached her, pulled a gun and forced her inside the apartment.

The husband, who was upstairs, heard the commotion, and shot the suspect when the attacker pointed his weapon at the husband, an apartment official told ABC11.

ABC11 has learned that the husband is a Fort Bragg soldier.

Donna Quiles, the property manager, said the apartment community has many military members among its residents.

"Military people around here, they're gonna have guns," Quiles said. "You can't just go knock on a door and expect not to be met with a gun when you know that the military live here.

"And I support anybody who carries a gun to protect themselves," Quiles added.

Reached at his home Wednesday, the soldier told ABC11 he was still too shaken to talk about the incident.

Detectives are investigating the shooting as a homicide.

It's not yet known whether any charged will be filed.

It may well be a robbery, but forcing her to go back inside may have been the prelude to a sexual assault.
Anyway, nice shot!

Having grown-up there, do you know of what you speak? Like most metropolitan areas it has its good and bad areas. And even in this areas there are good and bad people.

I still frequent Fayettenam, Fatalburg, Fayruit, but it's far from being a third world shit-hole.

Robbery/assault or not, the simple act of pointing a lethal weapon at his wife justified the use of deadly force.

Glad they were prepared and able and willing to defend themselves (unlike the people on ALL those burglar alarm commercials that just cower in fear and call for help).

OK, I apologize for my crack about Fayetteville and it being a shithole. I've never been there and shouldn't be so snarky sometimes.

I am always interested when (if) they release subsequent info on the perpetrator's previous arrests / convictions.

I was stationed there many years ago,and the situation then was, the majority of the crime was committed by restless natives.

Hopefully word gets out and robberies in that area drop.

Of course it's a homicide. Nobody is suggesting the dead guy accidentally jumped in front of shooter's bullet, are they? What in the hell else would they be investigating it as?

What exactly do you suppose the writer thinks homicide means?

Soldier kills Fayetteville man trying to rob wife
Posted 11:59 a.m. today
Updated 23 minutes ago

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — An active-duty soldier shot and killed a Fayetteville man late Tuesday as the man was trying to rob the soldier's wife, police said.

Rebekah Quema, 45, was outside her home in the 7500 block of Netherland Drive shortly before 10 p.m. when a man walked up to her and engaged her in a brief conversation before pulling out a gun, police said. The man threatened to shoot her if she didn't give him money, police said.

Quema's husband, 36-year-old Dario Miranda, heard the commotion outside and saw a man holding a gun to his wife as he tried to force her into the home, police said. Miranda grabbed his own gun and confronted the robber, shooting him when the man pointed his gun at Miranda, police said.

The robber was identified as Jerome Allen, 51, of Tin Lizza Drive. Investigators said gun gun was a pellet gun that looked like a handgun.

No charges have been filed in the case.
