All my working life I had to shave every day. Now that I am retired, I shave every three days. I use Bic disposables and can get two weeks out of one them before I toss it.

Seven. I shave every day. Change it on Sunday. I could stretch it further, but I like the math of 100 blades lasting just about two years.

Also, by tossing a blade after one or two shaves, you may be losing out. Some coated blades get sharper after one or two shaves. Stainless, less so.

I find that four or five shaves in, the blade settles from “sharp” to “smooth”. I get my best shaves when it’s broken in.

As with all things. YMMV.

Absolutely. I just didn't want to over complicate the poll.

I'm totally serious. Same eyes. Same hairdo. Same facial structure. Same build.

IMHO, it has a lot to do with the Razor. In my rotation, I have a Timeless razor. If I put a 'Feather' Blade in it, I need to be on my game while shaving or suffer a nick. I usually use an Astra in it instead and get 3 shaves. I also have a Feather AS D-2 in which I always use 'Feather' Blades. The Feather razor provides an excellent and close shave and is more forgiving if I'm not paying attention. I get three shaves with the Feather as well.

I prefer the Feather Razor over my Timeless but they are very different razors.

Blades are so cheap, I really don't think about tossing them after the 2nd or 3rd shave.

I usually get the best shaves w/ the 2nd use and the 3rd is sometimes just as good as the 1st or better. A 4th use, depending on the blade, not bad but it's on it's way south by then so I generally don't bother w/ a 5th.
(DE shaving, that is.)

ETA: I've tried corking a few brands of blades I thought were a tad harsh on the first use but found it better to just give up on those as I tested more and better brands.

I was using Gillette Atra cartrides for years.
Tired of high cost and poor shaves.

Went back to DE recently, perhaps about 2 yrs now.
I tried various brands of blades, some ok, but I really like Feather blades loaded into my 1940's safty razor.

I get about 6 shaves per blade shaving every other day.

Like many of the previous posters, I use a cartridge razor, specifically a Gillette Twin. I've been using this system since the early 70's, and it's not easy to find blades for it any more. I've worn out three handles, the first a light plastic thing that lasted only a couple of years, the second a heavy solid brass one that lasted though the 80's and most of the 90's, and my current plastic and sheet metal one that snapped in two back in the late 90's that I repaired with a sheet metal screw (head soldered to the metal blade bracket, and screwed into the plastic handle part).

I use the cartridges until the white lubricating strip is completely gone, usually a year or sometimes two.

Yes, I'm cheap, but only on the little stuff. I am way too extravagant when it comes to tools, guns, etc.

ETA: To follow up on Emma's boyfriend's comment down the page, I have pretty average skin and beard, I do shave every day, maybe skip a day two or three times a year, but never two days in a row. It definitely gets less facile after a couple of weeks, generally will do two passes rather than one, but after that the sharpness doesn't degrade further for a long time.

Dayum! Eek You must either have skin like leather, or facial hair as fine as silk. (Or you only shave twice a year. Wink)

I've used a single cartridge for over a month before (roughly 18 total shaves), and it was actually painful to use by the end of that.

At least ten years ago I saw a story on CBS Sunday morning (back when I stilled watched it). They had a guy that showed he could use a single disposable razor for months by just rinsing and drying the razor after each use. I've been doing that ever since and I'm still working the same Costco pack of Gillette custom plus 3's from around 2010.

This has worked like magic for me. This and buying a good Wahl Clipper set for short haircuts has saved me a ton of cash over time.

I shave about 5-6 times a week and don't change razors until it becomes almost painful (I'm cheap) which takes over 2 weeks. Somehow I ended up with two large bags of cheap, disposable plastic razors with twin blades. so I'm good for 2020.

Years ago when I was in the flooring business I put together an order directly to Persona for 20,000 utility knife blades, along with scraper blades and for the hell of it 4,000 double edge shaving blades which I split with my father and BIL. All the blades were like a dime each and packed in boxes of 100. The 15 boxes of double edge blades I took were to last the rest of my life and more because I changed blades every other Monday. I shaved with those blades for 15 years or more before somehow loosing them in one of my moves.

Using Feather double edge blades, I shave 4 times (2 passes per shave) before depositing the blade in the disposal slot in the back of my medicine cabinet. I keep the waxed paper that the blade comes in and make a small tear in it to keep track of each of the 4 shaves.

My routine for years has been to first do a quick shave with an electric razor then shaving cream and shave with Matrix 3 cartridges. I get over a month per cartridge that way and a wicked close shave.
