I run trains!![]() |
I'll be flying into Spokane next Sunday around noon and will be making my way down to Lewiston by that evening. Along the way I plan to swing though to see Coeur d'Alene as I've never been. Looking for suggestions of anything I need to see/do/eat along the way. I just need to be in Lewiston by that evening, outside of that open to ideas from locals or those familiar with the area. Thanks as always! Success always occurs in private, and failure in full view. Complacency sucks…

With only a couple of hours it is hard to offer many suggestions. Can you narrow your request a bit?

If I drive from Spokane to Coeur d’Alene to look around am I missing out? I don’t know what the route from Spokane to Lewiston vs. Coeur d’Alene to Lewiston has to offer in the way of scenery. Success always occurs in private, and failure in full view. Complacency sucks…

When I drove from Bellevue, WA to Yellowstone N.P., I stopped in Spokane to get fitted for a pair of White's boots. Nick's boots is also located in Spokane. I don't know if they are open on Sunday. I stopped in Coer d'Alene to have breakfast at a place that was on Diners Drive-Ins and Dives. I can't remember the name of the place. It had great food.

Too old to run, too mean to quit! |
Been a long time since I drove that route from Spokane to Lewiston. For a really spectacular view of Lewiston & Clarkston, spend a few minutes in the parking area at the top of the Lewiston grade looking at the whole valley below. 2 rivers (Clearwater & Snake) come together there. Amazing views. Then take the old route into the valley. Elk There has never been an occasion where a people gave up their weapons in the interest of peace that didn't end in their massacre. CdA is a pretty town. It’s changed immensely since I lived there in the mid 90’s A typical western 1 street town, resort with a very nice golf course. Pretty views of the lake. I’m sure some nice places to eat as it’s become a popular playground of the affluent ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Live today as if it may be your last and learn today as if you will live forever

If you get a sporty rental car, go take a drive up Old Spiral Highway, right out of Lewiston. One of the most enjoyable roads I have ever had the opportunity to drive.

Oh man, I forgot about Whites being in Spokane. And wouldn’t you know they’re open on Sunday. This is going to get expensive in a hurry. Success always occurs in private, and failure in full view. Complacency sucks…

The dive from Spokane to CDA is 35 minutes on the freeway. The trip from the airport to Lewiston by the Pullman Highway is a little over 2 hours, say 10 minutes more from CDA. The scenery is better on the first bit of the ID trip south, but the rest is the same. Eastern WA, north Idaho is a lot to take in in an hour or two on the drive to Lewiston, and the landscape around Lewiston is totally different from the Spokane CDA area. I would suggest you just get your rental and burn down to Lewiston on the way in, and spend your extra time getting the lay of Lewiston Clarkston and then check out CDA or Spokane on the way back out or on a different trip. If you need to get fitted for boots, then I would suggest Franks boots or even Nick’s over Whites, but I imagine if you set it up ahead of time any one of the custom boot shops in town will fit you when you are here. Either on the way in, or out. When in Lewiston try to head up the Hells canyon and take a boat trip for sure. If you are into guns see if Seekins can give you a tour, not sure if they still do. Do not expect anything in the fine dining realm, but you won’t starve.

^Thank you. I’m starting off the week in Lewiston but will be making my way to Boise and Idaho Falls checking out various properties (railroad) along the way. As a consequence I’ll have to do any boot shopping on Sunday as it’s a one-way trip. Success always occurs in private, and failure in full view. Complacency sucks…

For Lewiston, call up Seekins Precision and see if you can visit. Awesome company with outstanding products. ___________________________________________ "Why is it every time I need to get somewhere, we get waylaid by jackassery?" -Dr. Thaddeus Venture

In all honesty, there's not too much of interest between Spokane and Lewiston or Coeur d'Alene and Lewiston. I do think the CdA route is slightly more pretty though. Beware of your speed through the small towns along the way. Ticketing speeders is a primary revenue stream. While not in Lewiston, if you like pizza check out Fazzari's in Clarkston. The Shotsy is uniquely delicious!

Just enjoy the scenery on the way through, this place (CDA especially) is a tourist trap and prices reflect that. If you're coming from a larger metro area you won't see anything in town you haven't already seen a million times.
