I never really gave it much thought, but I suppose that I shouldn't be surprised. Remember Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the Boston Marathon Bomber? He, along with all the other prisoners are getting stimulus checks too..... Again. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/cot...timulus-checks Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., slammed the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief bill passed by Senate Democrats Saturday, listing off a number of convicted murderers who would receive stimulus checks under the bill. House Democrats plan to offer their final approval of the bill Tuesday before sending it to President Biden*s desk. The bill includes $1400 stimulus checks for individuals who make less than $75,000. Inmates are included among those who receive stimulus checks, just as they were in both of the previous Covid relief bills that offered $1,200 and $600 checks. Cotton voted for both of those bills. Sens. Bill Cassidy, R-La., Cotton and Ted Cruz, R-Texas, offered an amendment on the floor Saturday to block checks from prisoners. It failed on a party-line vote, 49-50. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., argued that prisoners' children could be affected by withholding the money from them. "Prisoners have all their living and medical expenses paid for by the taxpayer, they don*t pay taxes, they don't contribute to the tax base, they can't be unemployed. Inmates are not economically impacted by Covid," Cassidy argued. The IRS had tried to withhold stimulus checks from incarcerated individuals, but a court forced their hand to offer the checks in September. There was nothing written in the previous two relief bills or the one passed Saturday against inmates receiving checks. "Dylann Roof murdered nine people. He's on federal death row," Cotton wrote on Twitter. "He'll be getting a $1,400 stimulus check as part of the Democrats' *COVID relief* bill. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the Boston Bomber, murdered three people and terrorized a city," Cotton wrote in a separate tweet. "He'll be getting a $1,400 stimulus check as part of the Democrats' *COVID relief* bill." ------------------------------------------------ "It's hard to imagine a more stupid or dangerous way of making decisions, than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong." No double standards |
That is a stereotype. But as I learned long ago, often stereotypes exist for a good reason - they represent the truth. "Liberty lies in the hearts of men and women. When it dies there, no constitution, no law, no court can save it....While it lies there, it needs no constitution, no law, no court to save it" - Judge Learned Hand, May 1944

Told cops where to go for over 29 years… |
Don’t sweat the small shit. I’m a little more concerned about the billions of dollars going to foreign governments under this “COVID relief” nonsense... Just more distraction/misdirection politics. “Look at this” while we do all this other shit when no one is looking... What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This. It is very annoying that prisoners are getting this. Not sure who benefits from this they can't vote but I guess their family can. What bothers me most is the money not going to the American people but to other country's. I still cant figure out how we still do this being so far in debt with so many unfunded liability's to the American people. This will be our downfall in the not to distant future then what are all the country's that depend on us are going to do let alone the American public. The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Nobody will be saying "don't sweat the small stuff" when we are in hyperinflation. All of it is a waste and all if it is problematic. Printing money and giving it away is destroying our economy. The Dems seem to think there are no consequences but I think every one of us here will live them out. Get prepared people, it is about to get much worse. Living through hurricanes and the recent freeze in South Texas, I have seen first hand numerous times what it looks like for those not prepared. Do not be one of those.....

I would wager it would cost more to verify every recipient than the stimulus check is worth. Going through that many social security numbers using a government run system would take years. 10 years to retirement! Just waiting!

Much of that will eventually be laundered back into the portfolios of our Senators and House Critters.

How do you prepare for hyperinflation? (a serious question)

Non-Miscreant |
The only way to prepare is for barter. Buy the stuff you can trade now while its still relatively cheap. There will still be necessities on the market, except for the very high prices. Steaks and hams will spoil over time, ammo won't. Except that ammo is way too high to buy now. Just for reference, every single round of ammo I have can be bought from me. It'll just be expensive. Might get out of hand when I get kind of low on things. For reference, when I get down to my last round of 44, you will be paying for both the round of ammo and the gun I had intended to fire in it. The above poster made a pretty sweeping statement that prisoners can't vote. I think it depends on the state and their offense. But make no mistake, this was an exercise in vote buying. Then giving us mega-bucks makes the pain easier to take. I have no intention of ever voting for one of the crooks ever again. But I bet the folks down the road will be buying a newer car, louder stereo, or more cheap booze. If you think they'll be paying their past due rent or other bills, you're crazy. They're just crooks and buying votes with my tax dollars. A better question is will the same incarcerated criminals be paying their fines with their new found bucks? They should be. Every last cent. Yay, shit bags get my money, but I lost 35% of my income (and still losing money) and I didn't get the last " Significant payment" of $600.00 ~as described by Nasty Nancy pisspaints Pelosi~. I also didn't qualify for the $600.00 gravy on unemployment, because I didn't qualify for unemployment insurance because I still was working, though I was losing a shit ton of money.... I know people that made more money with that then working, and people making over twice my income qualifying for it, but not me. Yeah, seams right and fair. ARman

Here in Missouri, prison inmates don't get any money sent to them until fines, court costs, restitution, etc. are paid in full. So I suspect that a significant part of the stimulus money will go to various state and county governments. Not sure how it works in other states.

Actually wouldn't be that difficult. There is already a system in place to do this. Worked for Social Security for 42 years. We got prisoner data all the time to weed out ineligibles (incarcerated and convicted felons aren't entitled to SSA benefits). We got it from the Federal prison system and the states. IRS could just use the data we already have to weed out the prisoners. It would be about 95% effective. I would estimate it would take about a few weeks to work out the data exchange and screen the list of potentially stimulus eligible people. There are only two possible reasons why this wasn't done: 1. The Dems WANT the prisoners to get the money. They're part of their voting block, so why not. (Or at least they will be Dem voters when they are released. But who knows, maybe they'll get the right to vote soon. Bernie thinks they should have the right to vote.) OR 2. The politicians to0 stupid to even consider this issue and ask around to see if it could be done.

Plan to have food and shelter when you cannot get them like you do now. If you live in a big city have somewhere else to go if needed. Store up dehydrated food, figure out how to raise your own food source (chickens, pigs, rabbits, garden). Attain things that will not go away when the dollar is worth little (physical assets, land etc.). Start planning now, pick up some books and start getting ready financially.

Don't Panic |
/thread drift on A serious answer. If one is on the brink of serious, Germany-in-the-1920s-hyperinflation, the only hope is to borrow to buy hard assets. The idea is that you will be able to pay back with the cheapened currency to pay off the loan, leaving you with the hard asset, the value of which keeps pace with the inflation. One 'gotcha' is that it is not easy knowing well enough in advance when one is on the brink of that sort of deal, to pull it off - get it wrong and you could wind up with a lot of expensive debt to service. The other 'gotcha' is that it can be hard to know which assets would keep their value during/after hyperinflation, and not be subject to adverse governmental actions (taxation, restrictions, forced sale, confiscation, e.g.), into the bargain. Hyperinflation is not pretty - savers and folks on fixed incomes get zeroed out - their savings and dollar-denominated pensions and bond payments become worthless. OTOH, borrowers get a holiday - they are essentially 'short cash' and as cash becomes worthless they are big winners. So it turns frugality and thrift on its head. Huge political ramifications. /thread drift off Moving back to the theme of the thread, there is no valid reason to include prisoners in a stimulus. It would be understandable if it were just an oversight, to be corrected later. But that's not what this is.
