Greetings from beautiful Afghanistan

Not.

Rolled in safely last Friday, one week of turnover and now the shop is mine. So far this week we've had 4 IDFs. Such a warm welcome from the neighbors! Only 15 weeks to go and the official Fighting Season doesn't start til 1June. Whee! I'll be in touch as time allows.

Fighting season started early for us in 2011 when bin Laden was killed. Long story short, I was sent by the CDR over to the ANA to "see what's up" that morning. So I'm surrounding by a bunch of ANA who was probably pissed their hero got whacked in Pakistan...

Fighting season is enemy contact pretty much every day.

They probably don't want to contaminate the heroin supply. Could cause cancer in a few addicts a few decades down the road.

Roundup would be too kind. Agent Orange would be best!!!!!!

I loathe the fact we rotate out new teams in the spring/early summer just before the fighting season.

We haven't been in Afghanistan for 17 years.

We've been in Afghanistan 17 times...one year at a time and repeat all of the same mistakes.
