Partial dichotomy |
I have some moss growing in my shady back yard and want to add more in an area that has no growth of anything. Prior to having this idea, I made the mistake of using MossEx on my grass, killing a bunch of moss I could have transplanted. I'm looking for a very low growing carpet look of moss for the rear perimeter of my backyard. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Think about maybe phlox or periwinkle instead. In my experience moss is too easily overcome by weeds in anything but the most extreme shade conditions. In coastal SC you have a wide range of ground cover options, from swampy/tropical to swampy/terrestrial. Hard to establish, but a low-growing fern carpet wouldn't be the worst look.

At my last house, I had areas of the yard that were hard to mow. So I used English Ivy for ground cover. Worked great but with one lesson learned: If you dont stay on top of it, it can spread everywhere. Quickly! And it climbs too. End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

architect, this is in Mass. I should have specified. And maybe I should include a few pictures. I'm not sure I'd mind weeds as this area as it is kind of wild. It's just dirt now and very shady. Yoop, I'd be afraid of something that would spread like that and I do walk on that area somewhat.

I don’t know anything about planting it down but moss grass grows around my rural property. It’s awesome, never have to mow it! It doesn’t grow vertical. Wish I had it at my current house. What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone
