I'm buying a phone on Ebay to take to Verizon and need some advice. Should I buy the J3 Eclipse or the Galaxy S5? I'm not going to be doing anything other than making calls, getting directions, or reading the news. I wanted to find an LG phone, but everything under $130 seem to be prepaid.
I had a S6 Edge plus and they are expensive to repair if the charger port goes bad. I have a LG Stylo 3 now. They call it a phablet as its a little large. I like the size and could not afford a high end phone. It has worked perfect thus far and has a cool stylus pen to boot.

Suggestion for you: Before going with Verizon, take a look at Total Wireless.
They are an MVNO (re-seller) that uses the Verizon network, so you get the same coverage, same service, at much lower cost. No contract.
You can buy a phone from them, or you can bring your own Verizon-compatible phone.
My wife and I have been using them for a couple years, totally satisfied.

I'm with Verizon, but they are getting rid of everything below 4G in the next year or I'd stick with my really old LG. Are there any other brands or models that I should look at on Ebay?

I would suggest the Note 8 phone. That is about the most modern Samsung I would get. It may cost a bit more however.

If you want 'cheap' and 'good' look at a new Motorola Moto G5. Brand new at Costco through 01/31 for $199.
Check the reviews and you'll find this phone is a terrific bargain hunters cellphone.

Agreed. Good phone. Replaceable battery and expandable memory. I traded mine in to get 1/2 off a new Note 8, but it was always a great phone for me. Very good signal reception in areas where most other phones would not get any signal at all.
I have an S7 Edge (although one of the first things I did was to turn the Edge stuff off). It's been great, the only I don't like about it is the size - it's my first smart phone and I wish I hadn't let the guy talk me into the bigger one. I think you'd like the S5.
A friend of mine has the J3, it works well enough but seems to act a little weird now and then - getting confused and having to do a hard reset. It's also entirely possible that it's pilot error, my friend isn't exactly what anybody could call tech-savvy.

Actually for me, at work we were all issued Motorola Nextel two way phones. They were the best phones I've ever used, at least for two way talk and regular phone calls. Nowadays smartphones do just about anything that most computers can. The Nextel two ways worked clear as a bell from one end of Florida to the other and were at their best during storm duty when we would travel all throughout the state.
