I voted other. Eagle Creek makes a small zipper pouch. In it I carry a Leatherman Wingman, a Victorinox Tinker and a small AAA LED light. Covers all bases.

I second this choice. Got 2 of them, just in case I misplace the EDC one. Use it daily.

I carry a Swiss army knife evert day and would be lost without it. When I go camping I add a Gerber to my belt along with a flashlight. The pliers are great for lifting the lid of my dutch oven.

Depends. In the office it's the Swiss Army knife, going out into the field, I use the leatherman.

There was a time I carried a largish SAK on my belt used multiple times daily. As my tinkering/repair chores declined, eventually I re-posted my SAK to hanging its holster on the left control stalk of whatever the current driver rig was. Very handy but not every day.
For a few years felt almost undressed without it on belt. That holster was purchased in 1978 at a trip thru LLB Maine country. Serves well even today.

My new Surge has taken residence in the center console of the Jeep. Marvelous assembly which serves an incredible variety of tasks.

I consider both of them 'necessary' gear to get thru the week.

I voted SAK but its not so cut and dry.

It really depends on what your daily usage is. If your constantly working around equipment or running into do dads to fix, then the leatherman is more of a tool, with better drivers, files, pliers, scissors etc.

But if you just want a utility blade with some small drivers, can opener and a saw then the Knife. There are many different versions of the SAK now and there are some interesting combinations, I especially like the hunter version.

The knife is going to have a much smaller footprint which I like because most days it never gets used.


Personally I carry neither, I just edc a folding blade. I used to edc both and I just felt like my pants were getting weighed down by all the gear. I traded both out for a flashlight. I had to carry tools with me for work though, so it was easy to set them aside since I had everything I needed.

The leatherman wave is the best multi-tool I've ever had.

Can you carry the Wave comfortably in your pocket? I currently carry the Skeletool in my pocket - sometimes I would like the additional tools/capabilities of the Wave, but don't like wearing a sheath on my belt for every day carry.

years ago I carried both regularly depending on my attire for the day.

Usually I preferred Victorinox for the perceived 'superior' steel and I could get the blade sharper; while sometimes the Wenger seemed clunkier they had some otherwise unavailable tool designs.

Gradually they all became less of a 'daily use' item yet remain very useful and handy. Currently thrilled with the Surge as I tackle more demanding tasks that might damage my precious SAK.

There is a new SAK on the scene. Its called a Swisz. I ordered one. The lock looks to be innovative (for a SAK) and I expect it later this week.
