This week our fourth grandchild and second grandson was born, to our older son John (dilettante on SF although he probably doesn't post any more); some of you have shot with him in Bruce Gray's and Jerry Jones' classes. Being a dad has transformed his outlook on life, as frequently happens. He and his wife are thrilled, as are all of us in the family.

Fifteen years ago my wife and I had pretty much given up on the hope of ever having grandchildren. Now here we are, they are the center of our lives. All you fellow grandpas and grandmas know just what I mean. As my late and much missed co-grandpa LeRoy said, "If I'd known grandkids were so much fun, I would have had them first!"

Yes, grandchildren are the best. We also have four and they are our joy.

My granddaughter had the audacity to make me a great-grandfather recently. We get new pictures daily of the great-grandson.

Congratulations on the new arrival.

Just another day in paradise.

We skipped a generation. Our son became a father at the same age my father-in-law became a grandfather. In the normal (bygone) course of things, we would be having great-grandchildren. We are actually too old to be safely left with a newborn. And it is definitely much harder to keep up with a toddler on the loose than it was with our granddaughters just a few years ago.
But I wouldn't trade them for anything.

Congrats! I’m blessed with 3 granddaughters and 2 grandsons; I can hardly wait until I retire to start my dream job of “Full-time Papa”. I just dabble in it now, of course. Grandchildren are one of God’s greatest blessings. Children are pretty great, too.

I would have to obey my daughter's and daughter-in-law's rules, meaning no pix in social media. I can assure you every one is adorable. The girls in particular, Audrey and Natalie (apparently my daughter was fascinated with movies of the 50's and 60's) are like Job's daughters. Ben, the older grandson, is full of masculine fascination with trains.

That's actually my daughter-in-law's job. Big Grin Big Grin Eek
