one real General Quarters we had when a plane from another carrier had its identifier screwed up.

I remember that night. We went to GQ, CIC called out "Vampires!" Ship was firing Chaff and making fast tight turns and was about to fire SM2s.... we were told later that the freq of the Hornets Radalt was REAL close to the Exocet and our Aegis had classified it as an incoming anti-ship missile.
Fun times

Damn Shipmate Smile We may have run into each other during the one real General Quarters we had when a plane from another carrier had its identifier screwed up.

I was VA-145 on the USS Ranger. Our squadron dropped over two million tons of ordnance in Desert Storm.

AMH-AN fixing the A6-E and being a bomb mule carting ordnance to the birds to be loaded.

Ahhh Ramadan in the UAE (Abu Dhabi)

Damn brother, look me up sometime Smile

I have one of the 6 American flags that were flown on Saddam Hussein's palace the year his statue was torn down. The letter of authenticity for the flag says December 24th and my buddy who gave it to me said they wanted to get the flags up on the 25th since it was a Christian holiday but that didn’t work out. Pretty awesome and definitely the best thing someone has ever given me.

I was on the list for A school (GM) and due to the war my school got put on hold for about 8 months...meant I was stuck doing security patrols on the Crystal River Nuclear Power Plant due to the heightened wartime posture.

My dad was working at Unit 3 during this time. Small world Mike. We could've been in restaurants at the same time. Crystal River isn't that big.

I was retired 11 years already and working here in Texas. Just watching it on TV. Happy that our casualties were so light (but sorry for every one). I think they put the right man in charge.

Thanks to all who served over there (and before and since).

I was at BAMC (now SAMMC) and got attached to the 5501st Med Battalion, then got farmed out to the 91st General Hospital, then assigned to a MEDEVAC unit. That's a long way of saying they were surrendering about a week before I ever saw sand.

We had it until sometime on the 18th/19th of Feb when they finally got us rigged for tow after the mine hit. We were at GQ from 0716 on the 18th until we got to Bahrain 3 days later, ate sandwiches and slept when we could on the hangar deck. I was a brand new AE1(E6) on the helo Detachment (Got paid for it on 16 Feb 91) hard to believe that was 30 years ago.

My son in law was a tank commander in the Big Red One. Thankfully he made it home unharmed.

My high school science teacher was an F-117 pilot during the war. Amazing man, with some amazing stories, and some amazing aviation photos to go with those stories.

But thank you to all who served our nation in Desert Storm.

I knew Crumby and Murray, but not well. Just enough to give a "What's up?" to on the way to the motor pool.

Middleton and Talley were scouts with HHC and died in the infamous Apache friendly fire incident.

Neberman, IIRC was the guy supposedly killed by a cluster 'bomblet' he'd picked up and was driving around with.

The rest were from (I believe) Bravo and Delta Companies, who were part of TF 1-41. They were killed in two friendly fire incidents during the Battle of Norfolk when they were mistakenly engaged by M1 Abrams.

I was a poor college student at the time...beer and girls (well, one girl anyway) were a high priority for me as well. I was home sparingly so you may be right. Good times.

I was in USAF Basic Training when the air war started. I missed a lot of the coverage on the news, but I was in the Drum and Bugle Corps (we played music for graduations, etc). It was raining one day, so instead of marching and practicing, the crusty old Senior Master Sergeant (not a Drill Instructor) let us all watch TV for an hour. So, 40 of us were huddled around a 12" tv screen, utterly transfixed by what we were seeing.

Can't believe that was 30 yrs ago. . .
