1997-2006 She was a good bird, loved her mommy (Monteen) and mommy loved her very much.

29 years is a VERY good lifespan for a raptor. 5 in the wild is average with 15-20 being exceptional.

Monteen took her in as a chick that had been bullied by her clutchmates so badly, it left her unable to use her wing. The breeder was going to euthanize her, but Monteen took her and raised her up to live the best life she could without flight.
This raptor that easily could mortally injure a person would ball up her talons and crawl up into Monteen's lap and make baby bird squeaky sounds.

I knew she was old and was not doing well last week when I went by to visit, but the inevitable is never easy. She tried so hard to make her mommy proud by pretending to eat.

I've had my beloved Roxy 32 years over half my life and I can only imagine how bad this is for Monteen.

Monteen is hit hard by this and those of you who still keep up with her might wan to send condolences. It really means a lot to her.

I am sorry to read this.

You and Monteen's gracious offer to permit me to interact with the birds is still a memorable time to me.

Sad for you that the bird's life has ended after an amazing life. Let the bird soar in Heaven.

So sorry for the loss. 29 years is a very long time connected to something you love and has loved you.

We all are connected to our spouses and close family but we get so close and connect to our pets that have chosen to care for us by loving us back.
I spend more time with my pets than my wife or other family members. I know loosing family is different but loosing my pets rips right through me.
Hows is a good way to contact Monteen?

My prayers go out.
We have enjoyed our Parrot, Ziggy, for about 26 years now.I understand the loss, it truly is like loosing a family member, they are part of the family.
To have taken Artemis in so many years ago and given him the life he had is bitter sweet.
