You have your choice of Caribbean islands to jet off to and you pick Haiti? Why? I mean I know it's closer than Kyiv and the weather's nicer, but damn.

Of all the places not to go, surely Haiti must be near the top.

Doctors without Borders, medical missionaries, etc.

I know a doctor specializing in 3rd world public health who went and set-up a clinic there.

Yep. Takes courage to do missionary work there with the kidnapping of people trying to help the general population.

I've flown Spirit on short flights in the US definitely wouldn't be in my top 10 choices for an international flight.

It's a sad thing trying to help others in a country that doesn't want or doesn't know it needs help.

Spirit Airlines and Haiti. The joke practically writes itself.

Why is Haiti so fucked up while the DR seems to be improving their quality of life? I know the DR has a huge tobacco industry.

I go to the DR at times, they have a fairly serious border with Haiti. They want to protect what they have, building more resorts all the time.

Another example of how many countries treat their border.

If flying from Detroit, the trees are different, the air is warmer, and the water probably tastes and smells better.

Hmmm... Wouldnt Haiti make for a really great aerial bombing range? Cruise missile test range? Or naval gunnery range? We need a good place to practice!

The United States civil aviation regulator has grounded all flights to Haiti for a month, after three jets from US-based airlines were struck by bullets while flying over Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince, amid escalating gang violence.

With the massive amount of foreign aid Haiti has gotten over the years, they should be able to give every resident a couple million and call it a day. But like many 3rd world countries rampant corruption and the ruling class funneling all the funds through them ,so the average citizen gets little or nothing , is business as usual. Dictator of the week is who? They have not had a stable functional government since getting independence from France.
