I have to spend the next 3 days as an inpatient at Mass General. I need to start a new med which requires continuous monitoring as they load my system. It was surreal coming in this morning. Usually this is a bustling hive of activity with loads of people in the halls. Today it was empty. I saw maybe 10 people as I made my way through the hospital. The staff is putting on a brave face but you can tell they are unsure and nervous of what the future will hold as this unfolds. I have to say I am not really happy about being here but hopefully I am out before the shit really hits the fan. "You know, Scotland has its own martial arts. Yeah, it's called Fuck You. Just F’ing great. The guy I am (was) in the room with went into serious respiratory distress. They called for a code cart and moved me to another room. Now he is isolated under COVID 19 protocol and being evaluated by the infectious disease team. "You know, Scotland has its own martial arts. Yeah, it's called Fuck You. For real? |
Hope you get better real soon! We spend four days in the hospital last week with my 13 year old. he had two seizures and was hallucinating. The first day in the ER was busy with people coming in with flu like symptoms. I just started using the paramedic entrance since the door code is the same at the hospital near where I work. We ended up transferring to the children's hospital where we were in lock down pretty much so I couldn't see how busy it was but when we checked out the hospital area was pretty empty. Mostly employees. That hospital is usually very busy. Not minority enough!

Annnddd now I’m in isolation. This is just fan-fucking-tastic. They are following new protocols that are seemingly evolving by the hour. They have tested the old roommate for C-19 and should have the results by midnight. They still think it is not C-19 but are conducting due diligence. On the bright side, I now have a private room. I'm surprised they brought you in for care unless it was urgent. If it is, I'm sorry to hear that. I mean, I'm sure it's quite serious either way. I'd ask for a mask and wear it. We're canceling all elective procedures and we've banned visitors. Clearing beds.

My latest pulmonary function tests have showed negative impacts from amiodorone pulmonary toxicity. I have known my cardiologist since our freshman year in college. He wants me off of it and didn’t want to wait due to the likelihood o the hospital being overwhelmed for the foreseeable future. We scheduled this over 2 weeks ago. It’s amazing and frightening how the situation has evolved. As of Monday, they are canceling all elective procedures here. "You know, Scotland has its own martial arts. Yeah, it's called Fuck You. Best of luck to you. Exposure can happen anywhere. Hopefully you will test negative for the virus as will your old rommmate with severe respiratory distress. On the bright side you have access to some of the best medical care in the United States should it be needed. Having a cardiologist for a best friend is never a bad thing.

So you’re on, what, dofetilide? You don’t need to answer of course. Just that I know at least 3 days of inpatient monitoring recommended for dofetilide (Tikosyn). _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

I am being monitored for a Solatol load. I spent the last 12 years on amiodorone. I don’t want to just stop it with out a replacement due to a history of multiple episodes of V/Tac. GOOD LUCK! I hope this new drug works for you, and at least you have a private room-for now. When I had my stroke I was in a room with a drunk who was handcuffed to the bed... Do you have a pacemaker/defibrillator installation? That solved my arrhythmia issue. Just have to replace when the battery runs low. On my second one with about two years to go for another one. Good luck!! No quarter .308/.223

I had my first ICD implantation in 2007. Six months later, I had my first V/tac storm (53 shocks over a couple hours). A few more, less severe episodes have occurred since. Had an ablation, a switch to a pacemaker for cardiac resynchronization therapy and cardiac sympathetic denervation among other things. I have an amazing care team that has kept me alive with a great quality of life since my diagnosis of cardiomypathy 20 years ago. "You know, Scotland has its own martial arts.
