UK Nanny State Means Swiss Army Knives Won't Have Knives
By Tom Knighton | 12:29 PM | May 09, 2024

The UK already has some of the most extensive gun control laws in the nation, ostensibly created to keep criminals from getting guns and using them to hurt innocent people. It was so broadly supported by the subjects there that they willingly handed over their firearms.

Criminals, however, simply started using knives to hurt people, so the government there decided to implement knife control.

We used to suggest it as a joke, but the UK government clearly lacked a sense of humor and took the suggestion seriously.

In fact, the knife control laws there are so vast that the Swiss Army Knife won't have, you know, knives.

Don't forget the kitchen knife while they're at it. Oh, the hammer and the screwdriver, too. Oh, scissors, can't leave those out.

The Brits have not gotten that far yet. Give them a little more time, please. Cool

Reminds me of Barbie's friend Ken who doesn't have a...err...

At least now, if somebody asks "What's the point?" we can respond "There is no point anymore."

Why don't they just skip to the root cause and outlaw anger and violence?

I remember being in a UK police museum in the early 90s. They had an exhibit on weapons confiscated from football matches. Among the many concealable items was a medieval mace that somebody tried to sneak into a stadium somewhere. That was pretty impressive. How far they have fallen.

This is but another "Reductio ad absurdum (reduction to absurdity)" outcome of the progressive left's never-ending attempts to ban tools used by criminals instead of placing responsibility squarely on the individuals committing the crimes. Focusing on perpetuators would raise all kinds of social justice and policing issues which the left cannot abide. The very real consequences for the public at large are never considered. Not sure why the UK public cannot, or will not, connect the dots and hold their politicians accountable.

It was actually proposed back in 2018:

A judge has called for a drastic rethink on the way we use knives in kitchens in a bid to reduce the number of young men dying on our streets because of knife crime. And he has come up with an idea for a scheme that could be rolled out across the UK where members of the public could take their kitchen knives to be 'modified' and the points ground down into rounded ends.

I know what you're thinking. "Did he use six tools or only five?" Well to tell you the truth in all this excitement I kinda lost track myself. But being this is a Victorinox Huntsman, the most powerful Swiss Army Knife in the world and would slice your hangnail clean off, you've gotta ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya, punk?

The UK is showing just what dementia can do to legislators. At some point, the only kitchen utensil in the UK might be a soft plastic spork.

They also have to get of all trees, then. You can get pointy sticks from them.

Most garden tools can be used as is or be easily modified into contact weapons. Of course, there are always hatchets and axes.

I wonder some day if a special permit will be required for a cricket bat.

I would take a screwdriver over a Swiss Army knife if I wanted to hurt someone.

They still haven't corrected the first sentence of that article. Does that site have an editor, or do they just post it up without any editorial review?

From 2020 -

If only more knife manufacturers had gotten on board with this brilliant idea years ago, “knife crime” (LOL!) would be practically non-existent by now in the U.K.

U.K. brand selling no-tip knives ‘in response to rising knife crime’

“A U.K. company is hoping to fight the country’s soaring rate of stabbing crimes by selling most of a typical knife — just not the tip.”
