I thought this was the law of the land? When we're camping and cooking hot dogs over the fire we always pull out a bottle of ketchup from the cooler....use it for profiling purposes

Almost across the street is Blues on Halsted...a more "intimate" club. And north a couple of blocks on the right is the Hidden Shamrock, where I play open mic most Wednesday nights.

Can't remember the name of the place but it was just a block or so down from the old Earl (and Second City) and across the street from the Spice House. We stopped in there last fall and they had fantastic food. Outdoor seating too which is nice. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Doug Patton.

Just thought of this. Stay away from the Viagra Triangle, which is aptly named. Rush Street and environs. You can google for more information.

Absolutely! No cheese, chili, mayonnaise, catsup, relish, onions--only mustard. (I am a purist.) You can put all that stuff on a frankfurter in a bun if you want to, but don't call it a "hot dog".... flashguy Texan by choice, not accident of birth

This forum never ceases to amaze me. It looks like I'm only going to be in Chicago one day, and you all have given me enough ideas to fill a year of weekends. It's going to be hard to choose. Johnnies Beef near Harlem and North Avenue for a combo, wet with hot peppers. -That sounds awesome. I can spend a full day in the Field Museum and do whenever I can. The bird exhibits fascinate me. https://www.fieldmuseum.org/at-the-field -I would love to do that. I'm just not sure if I'll have enough time to enjoy it this trip. If you like craft beer, I would suggest the Long Room in Ravenswood. A good bar with lots of craft beer choices but not the hype and crowd of The Hopleaf. Beautiful old wood bar. Great owners.- This is going to be on my list for sure. If you can get a reservation at The Girl and The Goat, I highly recommend. That area on the west side our Randolph Street is full of great restaurants. If you can eat pizza at Pequod's, do it.- I looked at their website, that place looks amazing, but I'm also afraid that I could blow most of my budget for the whole trip on that one stop. A THIN pizza from anywhere. Deep Dish is for the tourists. Wink I grew up in Chicago and never heard of deep dish until after I moved away. (nothing wrong with it though)- I'm going to have to do the toursisty thing this time and go deep dish, my dad is from Chicago and he always ends up (unfavorably) comparing whatever pizza we're eating to the deep dish he grew up with. Adler Planetarium- That is the one thing on my list that we're going to do for sure. "Lost Lake"- I googled that, it looks like it would be a great last stop for the night. if you want to see a baseball game I recommend the White Sox, but I am biased.-I wish I had time. Frank Thomas was one of my heroes when I was a kid. I don't know what those thin pizza mopes are eating, but Chicago style pizza is deep dish. That thin stuff is Old World/New York.-My dad would agree with you. AVOID: The west side west of Racine ave. The south side south of the UoI. your pretty good going northwest and staying east near the lake. USE COMMON SENSE as in all big cities the predators are out there and are eating the naive.-Noted. Thank you for that. https://www.thehouseontherock.com/ its right on the way , plan on about 8 hours- That looks truly unique. I would love to squeeze that in if we can find time. DO not put ketchup on your hot dog. Mustard only.- Now, I thought that was just common sense! I second SuperDawg (Milwaukee Ave & Devon Ave) and I toss in Twin Anchors (1655 N Sedgwick Ave), the best ribs in town. Also for real deep dish try the real Pizzaria Uno (29 East Ohio St) it's the real deal not the chain that you find around the states.-Two suggestions for SuperDawg, sounds like a must try. Also, i would like to try those ribs as I live in the (arguable) heart of BBQ country. Originally posted by M'headSig: La Scarola is one of the best Italian restaurants I've been to... including in Italy.-I love Italian, but I will be staying with one so that may have to wait. Again I'd recommend Ricobenes, their pie is very good, and the fries are the best I've ever had.- This may be my stop. Looks really good. Chinatown- A short distance from Downtown. There’s a ton of great places there too. In Chinatown Square – north side of Archer, check out Joy Yee, good price and a decent size plate of food. There’s also Strings, it’s a local chain for Ramen noodles. Honestly, the best place I’ve had Ramen outside of Japan! -I've seen a few posts about Chinatown, I'm not sure that will be for this trip, but I'm going to keep that in mind for future reference. If you like live blues music, check out Kingston Mines in Lincoln Park on the north side. It's on Halsted, forgot the cross street. Joanna Conner is amazing! They have 2 stages and each stage alternates performances every hour. I would forgo Portillo's. You can get them in Illinois, Indiana, Arizona, Minnesota, California and Florida. If you're going to eat in Chicago, you need to get something unique. Almost across the street is Blues on Halsted...a more "intimate" club. And north a couple of blocks on the right is the Hidden Shamrock, where I play open mic most Wednesday nights. Cool Big Grin- Have to keep those in mind for sure. "The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people." "Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy." "I did," said Ford, "it is." "So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?" "It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want." "You mean they actually vote for the lizards." "Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course." "But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?" "Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

If you are staying downtown, The House of Blues is pretty cool. It is near Trump Tower so make sure you get a picture of it. It pisses all the libs off. Don't worry about taking you pocket Constitution, most of it does not apply there... Do, Or do not. There is no try.
