Hey Guys
Long time since I have been on here. We use Firesticks for all our TV’s.
No cable or Dish for us!!

We do use our OLD OLD APPLE T V DEVICE to sling IPad streaming stuff up to our TVs.
Well my 10 year old Apple TV Box finally died.

We don’t use it daily but want to replace it.
What do you guys think I need to know about replacing it.
I am guessing I don’t need the most expensive model.
I do live on a budget so a used one would not be frowned on by me .
Thanks for any input you might have for me!

Enjoy being on the best Gun forum on the internet!
It’s A Wonderful Family To Belong To !

Most Sincerely,
Donna. ( MississippiGal)

Good question, you can cast directly to some TV's others you'll need a device, Apple TV or Chromecast. Cheapest way is to get the google Chromecast, plug into the TV and then cast from apps on the iPad or phone.

There are issues where some apps don't allow casting, if you are casting up from utoob the chromecast will do it all for about $30...

We run appletv on Firesticks as an app, maybe a member here who just recently dumped apple is looking to dump a AppleTV device LOL...

You should be able to cast via Chromecast from your computer to the firestick.
You shouldn't need Apple TV just for that.

A later video:

Not an Apple guy but I believe it is the same on the pad.

With a PC in Chrome (browser) you can directly cast to a Smart TV or firestick.
Very easy to use in YouTube as well.

Certified Apple Refurb is the way to go, it gets brought back to a virtually brand-new like condition AND gets the full Apple warranty again:

I paid less than that for a brand-new Apple TV 4K on clearance at WalMart. $99, I think it was? (Don't know if they're still available.)

But even that is over-kill for what she wants.

Thanks Guys
I am old school .. means hard to teach an old dog new tricks
I have done the Apple TV way for so long .. I am just comfortable with it.
The TV I will be using it on is an older/ cheap TV .
So I think I will check in the classifieds here in SigForum & see if someone has a used one for sale before I go the Apple Store Route!

Thanks again Guys

Heya Donna. Plenty of others are sharing other options for casting so I’ll leave that to them. As to your question of replacing your Apple TV, a nice option is this one here. It’s the model from 2017 with 32gb storage and 4K. It’s $129 with open box models it looks like going for $111. I have a couple of the model right before this one and they’re great.

Something to remember as well, if your old unit was 10 years old (2nd gen), that was before they added the App Store with the newer generation units since 2015. So you may not even need to sling the iPad hardly at all. All the big streaming apps on your iPad can be downloaded to this newer Apple TV and run from there. Since you can attach your Apple account to the unit as well, your music and photos can also be viewed straight from the Apple TV should you choose to set it up that way.

I try to check the forum when I can so if you have further questions about the device or setup that I can help with or would rather give me a phone call, feel free to reach out to my email. Good luck!

EDIT… LoL looks like we all posted about the same time. Awesome score!
