Bosch dishwashers lasting five or eight years? Sheesh! The house that we are in was built in 1986. We moved in on July 19 of that year. The dishwasher was a cheap, builder grade, Magic Chef. Still working just fine, it's the only major appliance that has not been replaced at least once.

Bosch? Well I like their windshield wipers...

Recently burned out one of their cordless drills. Just over a year's length of usage, and light use most of the time at that. At the time I should've just upgraded into another Makita, which I rectified this time around. I've yet to have any durability issues with their power tools (knock wood) beyond a couple of defective batteries, which they replaced under warranty.

Back when I was still doing architecture/construction stuff, Bosch was one of those brands we learned to avoid. Like the plague. We would do our damndest to convince clients that they were a BAD solution. Callbacks just suck the life out of profit margins.

Germans and circuit boards...to date they've not been much of a good pairing during my lifetime.

Wow, I thought 8 years was actually a long time! I guess not. Our first dishwasher in this place was a cheaper Kenmore that lasted 3 years. It would have cost $300 to repair, so we bought the Bosch. The Bosch lasted 8 years, so I thought that was great. The only other major appliance that has lasted as long for us has been the Maytag washer.

Recently got an 800 series Bosch with the Crystal Dry feature. Had to wait 3 months for it.

Bosch has a pretty good dish washer............except for loading! What a mess of Teutonic baloney. I can get twice the load in a Whirlpool, especially with the silverware rack in the door.

This is an interesting topic for me, as our Thermador dishwasher (I believe it's about 21 years old, as our younger son turned 21 in August, & we moved in to this house a week before he was born). As I don't remember the previous dishwasher in this house, I think we've had the Thermador since about the time we moved in.
Well, the Thermador has effectively died, but not in a literal sense. The dang thing never stops running. The last time I ran it, I shut it off manually after 4.5 hours (it had done this the previous two times, just running & running...).
We did have an appliance company that is supposedly skilled in Thermador repair come out & diagnose. $160 later they really didn't know other than perhaps the circuit board was bad.

Since that time, I've found that decent new dishwashers are hard to find. Especially since a black front dishwasher is what my wife expects. The Thermador has a black front, the stove & refrigerator are black, and the countertop is black with gray. Stainless just wouldn't look correct in our kitchen.
I'm good with either a Bosch, or a Maytag, with about a ten week wait. I just want the most reliable dishwasher. Trust me, I don't want bells & whistles, just a reliable dishwasher that will work work close to 20 years (OK, close to 10 years, considering today's planned obsolescence...) But I do want an all stainless steel tub. No hybrid or plastic tub.

Well... my refrigerator just took a shit too. Only 9 years old, Kenmore.

So I guess I need a new one of those too.

I was looking to upgrade the stove in a condo to a dual-fuel. Most all the brands & models at Best Buy and Home Depot that are shown on their website are unavailable.
