"The contamination is … much greater than communities in Brazil or Kenya or India," Dr. Lee Riley told the station. Riley added that discarded needles could cause HIV and Hepatitis B and C, while dried feces can cause potentially dangerous viruses." ^^^Could it be called a.........shithole?

It's worse when they actually give out free needles. They become use-and-toss items rather than an item to be saved for later. Therefore, more needles in the streets, on the sidewalks, on public transportation, etc. .

I was appalled the last time I was in San Francisco and that was 10 years ago. I can just imagine what it's like now. When I was stationed at Ft. Ord in the late 60's I loved going there on passes. Such a shame. Jim ________________________ "If you can't be a good example, then you'll have to be a horrible warning" -Catherine Aird

Last (and only) time I was there was in 2000 and in no way shape or form am I surprised to have read this.. It was common in 2000 and just more prevalent now. When you see a homeless woman sitting on a trashcan, located on Market street near downtown, taking a shit at 0930 on a workday and the po-po just drive on by, you know there's a systemic problem with that town and its society as a whole. Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. The lyrics of Douglass Cross seem somehow sadly wrong … The loveliness of Paris seems somehow sadly gay The glory that was Rome is of another day I've been terribly alone and forgotten in Manhattan I'm going home to my city by the Bay I left my heart in San Francisco High on a hill It calls to me To be where little cable cars climb halfway to the stars The morning fog may chill the air I don't care. My love waits there in San Francisco Above the blue and windy sea When I come home to you San Francisco Your golden sun will shine for me.

Implement policies guaranteed to attract people who are as filthy and disease-ridden as rodents and this is what you get. No surprise there. Except maybe to leftists. Hey, you know, all they need to solve this problem is a bunch of safe injection sites, and housing for the homeless. Give them somewhere warm and safe to shoot up and not die. Because the opioid epidemic is the big problem here. Did you know more people in Washington died from opioid overdose over the last few years than car accidents? We need to shelter these people and provide them with healthcare so they can get cleaned up and eventually return to being productive members of society. When you're deep in addiction, you need support systems in place and..... Ok I couldn't keep going. I used to care about the plight of homeless junkies in a way that ranked probably best as pity. Not any longer. Four years of working in downtown Tacoma with exactly what this article is talking about more than cured me. The things I saw on a daily basis.... There's shit everywhere and you get to watch new piles and streaks on the wall as they're deposited. Making eye contact with a guy as he's leaning up against the wall, and watching what he's producing run down the wall while he mumbles "sorry" is... an experience I've had, and it was far from the only one of that type. Human raccoons. Round 'em up, load them onto barges and tug them out into the middle of the ocean in high seas for all I care. ______________________________________________ “There are plenty of good reasons for fighting, but no good reason ever to hate without reservation, to imagine that God Almighty Himself hates with you, too.”

I was in San Francisco in 1963. Union Square was a filthy disgrace then, but I wasn’t used to big cities then, thought it not unusual. I did find out why it was always cold and windy. All the Giant fans. Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown
