A verified case of Influenza A swept through my house in the spring... I think it was May 1st when we first started showing symptoms. All 5 of us got it pretty hard. All 3 kids (4, 6, 9) and myself had a fever for over 10 days at least, my eldest had it for 15 days. Her and I both saw 105+ on the thermometer a couple of times. It was pretty rough, especially everybody being sick at once... the first three-four days after the onset of symptoms were just terrible.

The urgent care that saw us said they were having a ton of people test positive for Flu A at that time.

The two younger kids bounced back pretty well, despite the lingering fever. My wife was only down for half as long as the rest of us... guess she wins the award for the best immune system. It turned into bronchitis for the 9 year old and a mild case of pneumonia for me.

I think the extended lock downs and all the covid measure we took had an unintended consequence of degrading our immune systems as a society... We've had a lot more minor illnesses and fevers this year than ever before and so has pretty much everyone in our circle with kids.

Wash those hands and gets lots of sunlight, everybody.

I thought it was common knowledge that the flu virus triggered covid tests as being + for covid.
No?

Oh come on. The flu numbers plummeted because they got called covid. What we did would help the numbers diminish t wouldn’t make the flu disappear which it magically did during covid. As for it being better or worse, I call maybe bullshit. Almost impossible to tell because we have now turned into a nanny state where everybody is getting tested or going to a Dr for a fucking cough.

Never once in 55 years have I ever had cold or flu like symptoms and even considered going to the Dr. Except in the military, that was the only way to get out of work. If I felt bad I stayed home, stayed warm, ate soup, slept, and watched tv. Which is exactly what I would do tomorrow if I got sick.

GMAFB. Going to the Dr for a cold. Fuck that.

Exactly what did we do to mitigate the flu that couldn't have been done before? Wearing masks and social distancing proved ineffective during covid, but worked on the flu? I'm not buying it. The flu was just as prevalent last year, just rebranded Covid IMO.

Here is the same map, one month later.

======

I’m down and out with something right now. Low fever, chills, body aches, nasty cough, fatigue, etc.

Might be flu. Might be Covid. Might be bronchitis. I don’t know. Really sucks though.

The entire family just got over…something, I don’t know what. A week or so with a day or two of low grade fever, clogged pipes, persistent cough yada yada. I’ve lost my sense of smell so it could be the coof for all I know; if it was, it was a lot milder than a year ago with delta. I’m coughing up a lot of goop so I doubt it. Everyone else seemed harder hit but I’m still fully functional. More of an annoyance than anything, but I can’t wait to clear it out.

Go to Walmart and get a bottle of SAMBUCOL for $10.

I haven't had the flu since 1993 when I gave my last bottle to a co-worker and he never replaced it as agreed. At that time, you had to mail order it and it was $20.

I haven't had a flu shot since the mid 80's.

I had all the different kinds of crud when I was a kid. I attribute to that and that I never had any kids of my own, the fact that I've been relatively NOT prone to getting sick every year. I got a flu shot once in about 2002 or so and had a bad reaction to it, so I didn't get them any more after that. Except once again in `05 when I was being treated for cancer and my oncologist strongly recommended it because my immune system was compromised. That was the last flu shot I got, and I haven't had the flu since. Knock on wood.

Mrs. Flash got it 11/23/22. I got it 3 days later.

She just got over it yesterday and I'm about to come out of it.

Nasty cold.

My girlfriend felt shitty and sure enough 24 hours later I had it too.
Achy, sinus inflammation, and a little congestion with slight fever. I took a half day off work and slept the first day until the fever left then have just been eating good, taking vitamins, and drinking lots and lots of water since.
Just another little bug.

I received a Health Alert Network (HAN) notification today from the CDC that Tamiflu will be in short supply. If you have a provider that is willing to write you a scrip, I would suggest you get it and get it filled in the event you do contract influenza.
