Both those sets are adequate, IMO, but neither is anything to pine for. You'll rarely miss 15/16 or 1", especially in 3/8 drive - that's 1/2 territory.

I just demoted my 26-year old craftsman 1/4 & 3/8 metric sockets that I've had since I was 13. Reason - last 10mm walked off. I'll replace the ratchets with something better at some point, but the craftsman's have served me well enough for 26+ years, so not in a big hurry. Rebuilt the 3/8 & 1/4 a couple times when I worked at sears, but the 1/4 has always had detent issues & will be the 1st to go.

I bought Gray Pneumatic impact sockets mostly because the laser etching shows up on the black oxide better than chrome. They aren't much thicker than the craftsman & are likely tougher if I hammer on them with an impact. Taiwan is 2nd choice to USA made, but the price difference is ridiculous for US vs Taiwan quality. GP won out on price, quality & their blow-molded cases aren't humongous.

Until I recently 3D printed some trays, all my SAE sockets were in a box at the back of my toolbox to save space. MM 1/4 & 3/8 are on magnetic trays that hold both std & deep & can be carried easily to wherever I need them. I use metric 80+ % of time except for my lawn mower & I can use the 1/2 that still in factory craftsman tray.

I like Tekton stuff, for what it is, but that breaker bar with the monster shit head could give you clearance issues depending on your application. But overall it's still a good choice. I don't use Tekton much, but I do own and like using a few pieces. The inexpensive hand tool market coming out of non-communist Asia has grown leaps and bounds in quality over the years. But I still won't mess with lots of Chinese tools actually manufactured in Chinese factories w/Chinese materials, although much is serviceable which I own and use, it depends on your application and if you're using it to make a living or whether you like using and can afford the coin to grade up. There's a difference between good and great quality hand tools but you don't need to worry about it unless you want to, or have to by way of your profession. I don't see any contractors showing up at my house with lots of less expensive hand tools, at least where it really matters. You can use a Knipex plier as a best of breed, or you can use a Channel Lock brand plier, which will get the work done, but you'll always be scraping the rust off and oiling it, because they don't pacify the steel before finishing it, or in Channel Lock's case, spraying it with some urethane type crap (which actually holds water undneath the coating). Same with Teckton sockets. You won't see any mechanic or contractor with Tekton sockets, but if you're not one of these, you should be able to use them fine and enjoy doing so, as Tekton delivers solid quality to dollar ratio.

I guess I'm going to pass on the Milwaukee sale. Doesn't sound like such a spectacular deal that I have to get it now. Sounds like the Tekton sets are good and are equal in value even when regularly priced and I can pick those up in the future whenever I actually need them.

Thanks everyone for your input.

That is solid. Tekton tools enjoy universal approval among hand tool aficionados. Milwaukee power tools yes, their hand tools, not really on the same map.
