50 years ago today I was a scared 18 yr old kid from Yuma Az. standing on the footprints at NTC San Diego. I reported to boot camp on my 18th, primarily to escape a toxic family environment.
Thru blind luck and a few decisions that went the right way, I have arrived to where I am today. Blessed with a wife who understands me and loves me, puts up with my crap and eccentricities, and my habit of buying quality firearms. A daughter and four grandsons who like to spend time with Grandpa, and go to the range with me. Life is pretty darned good.

Right on!
And thank you for the reminder to be grateful for all the goodness in our lives.
When I look back on how life has improved since boot camp, I realize how truly blessed I am. 32yrs ago things could have gone alot of different ways for me -- most of them NOT good! I firmly believe that signing up and shipping out was a big step in getting things right for me.

Congrats to you and there are a lot worse habits a husband can have than:

"my habit of buying quality firearms"

Because son, it is what you are supposed to do.

50 years ago I had just gotten out of BMT after spending the summer in San Antonio, TX (not a pleasant experience for a boy from up Nort).

I learned some important things that I probably would never have learned any other way.

The harder you work, the luckier you get.

Congratulations.

Nice! I was once a scared kid from BFE Pennsylvania but it was RTC Orlando Florida and it was only about 38 years ago. I also joined to escape the toxic family but I couldn't imagine spending one's birthday standing on the footprints. Happy Birthday!

You did very well. 60 years ago I escaped the Pennsylvania Coal Mining area to join the Army.

Two weeks out of High School I'm on a troop train heading for Lt. Knox for basic.

IMO, best move I ever made was joining the Military as it taugh me how to survive during bad times to come.

The 19th is a milestone day for me as well.

40 years ago, I walked off the bus at Ft McClellan, AL to start Army Basic Training.

32 years ago, I walked down the aisle and married the love of my life.

And 30 years ago, we signed the papers and walked through the front door our first house.
