Seeker of Clarity |
I realize the vast majority of us are going to use Microsoft Office products in the business world. So for this poll, to keep from skewing the numbers of what people choose to use, please only vote for what you use at home. Does anyone actually USE Pages, Numbers, Keynote by choice? Is it any good? I get the impression Google Docs is really taking the world by storm these last 5 years or so. Anyone using LibreOffice or similar open source free suite? I look forward to the discussion.

Precisely because of your first sentence MS. I don’t want to have to flip back and forth or learn new platforms unless needed. You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02

Open Office here. For home use, virtually indistinguishable from MightGoSoft. I use the spreadsheet daily and the word processor 2-3 times a week. Thunderbird for email. I used to use MS Office and Outlook, but it got too expensive. Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

I was curious about Office 365 so I gave it a shot this year. Excel, Word, and Outlook are just like I'm used to at work. I really like the cloud OneDrive. It acts like a local hard drive for Windows based machines. It makes it really easy for document collaboration (which I do a lot of at work). It also works well for the family sharing photos. You get a 1 Tb drive with the subscription. I use a small portion of it. NOT RECOMENDED FOR CONFIDENTIAL DOCS unless both sides have a good encryption app. I'll renew the subscription next year.

Back in 2007 I took a job supporting ASP websites. I was a Mac only households so I had to build a computer so I chose Office 2007. I’m still using 2007 today. I’ve never seen the purpose to update. The Apple apps are pretty much superior and the open/libre office apps are pretty much inferior to the Microsoft version.

I started using WordPerfect on a DOS machine and have never switched to another program. "Cedat Fortuna Peritis"

I have the old versions of Office (CD based) loaded. Screw the online Office. I use MS Office on 2 Apple computers and 1 MS Surface Pro. I can view documents on my iPhone or iPad in whatever comes with them. I've been using OpenOffice and then switched to LibreOffice for 15+ years. Zero issues working with documents created in Microsoft Office, or sending LibreOffice files to people using Microsoft Office. No reason found yet to purchase Microsoft Office personally.

MS Office because I used to get it free from school or work. Now I just get a discount on 365 - like 30%. And it's consistent. If I didn't have office at work then Apple iWork suite would be fine for home stuff.

I tried Open Office a long time ago but it didn't have the features I was used to. The last one time purchase Office suite I bought was 2016. But I also use Evernote Premium which is a personal note taking and organizing program and is about $70 a year. But I started seeing my coworkers use Microsoft OneNote and it seemed very much improved since it first came out. So I think 2 or 3 years ago, I switched to Microsoft 365. For the same price $70, not only do I get OneNote, I get Excel (which I use a lot) that has more features than the desktop version plus 1 TB of cloud volume which I use as a mirror backup of my documents. After those three, the last thing I use is Word. I do have to open Outlook only to prevent issues with the tasks reminders I've set in OneNote. I also use google sheets because I can easily access it from across different devices. And I have a google sheet that pulls in stock quotes automatically. But these are just a few google sheet files and most of them is for game statistics like Golf Clash when I was into it. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Though I use MS Office 365 on my PC's, I did install and try LibreOffice after a couple members here suggested it in a thread. If I only needed software for home use, that would likely be my solution. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. Every man should have several guns. I have Office 365 which goes with me on the MS Surface I carry with me. The accepted platform at school is Google Chrome which I avoid as much as possible. It is horrible and has limited functionality Get over it!!

Just an FYI: If you don’t want to be in on this (IMO) scam of Office 365 where it’s a never-ending “subscription”, you still CAN buy a standalone one-time paid for Office package for $149 called Office Home & Student and there was a deal running last week where it was $49, I managed to get it for my parents who needed their way outdated and no longer supported Office suite updated.

I have Office at Work. I have Office 365 for side business. I still mostly use Google Sheets for personal spreadsheets, Google Keep for notes, etc.

You forgot to add an option for: Why on earth would I need to use any of this for personal use? The ONLY time I ever need to open/create any kind of office document is for work. This is where my signature goes.
