I am interested in learning new techniques with my S&W Model 10.
I will post a review of what I learned after reading the book.

I would employ these techniques with a Ruger LCR. My review of my improvement and learning would be posted in either the Lounge or the Lair, depending on results.

I'm bidding on a Webley in .455 I'd try it with. If not, I have a revolver shooting friend who has a Colt SAA clone in .44-40 who would join me in trying Mr. McGivern's methods.

I just entered the .327 Federal Magnum arena this week (LCR). A GP100 will be next. The plan is to shoot it in local Steel Challenge matches this year, as a wildcat caliber (.38 is the minimum caliber allowed in SC).
This book can only serve to help. I can easily chronicle improvement by stage times over the spring/summer.

IIRC, McGivern wrote that the essential element to shoot a revolver quickly and accurately is that the trigger should move forward at the same rate the trigger is pulled back.

I can shoot fast and accurately with my S&W 64-3. I can not do both at the same time. Perhaps I can learn something from the book that I haven’t figured out by now. Thank you.

The thing I found most interesting was that McGivern was evidently one of very few skilled shooters at the time who believed it was possible to shoot fast and accurately with a double action revolver. As he pointed out,
“I quote from a noted writer—‘As such shooting (double-action) will ruin any shooter’s holding, and still more his scores, and make hitting or grouping of shots quite impossible.’
“‘The use of double action in this work (fast drawing, pointing and shooting) is almost sure to throw the aim off.’”

Despite common nostalgic views of yesteryear, it’s not only the firearms that have improved in the last century, but also our shooting methods and techniques.

I had become a reasonably competent double action revolver and pistol shooter long before I read the book (IMO), but I found it to be a fascinating history of the era and well worth the read for that reason alone.
